ta,

but didn't he wear this already? i was hoping he'd shed a few layers in the heat & wear sandals.

I'm pretty sure those people in the Gulf know about air conditioning....

Edit: and Sandals? What is wrong with you?

Men should NEVER NEVER EVER wear sandals!

Prince rocks capacity crowd at Yas Arena

Published Monday, November 15, 2010

Prince rocked Abu Dhabi (Supplied)

The final night of Yasalam 2010 was celebrated in true Abu Dhabi style as funk legend and soul superstar Prince took to the stage at Yas Arena on Sunday night, leading the ecstatic crowd of over 45,000 in chants of 'Oh Abu Dhabi' along with some of his classic hits for over two hours.

Die-hard Prince fans travelled from around the globe to see him perform as part of the official after-race concerts organised by the region's premier live events company, Flash Entertainment. The seven-time Grammy Award winner was joined by Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, as he invited members of the audience on-stage to sing and dance along to hits from a career spanning three decades.

As the crowds left the arena with their pulses racing, Skybar at Flash Forum kept the party going until the early hours, with excited fans flocking to see an all-star lineup for the closing party with Pitbull, Alesha Dixon, Gary Pine and Vato Gonzalez.

"An Intimate Evening with Corinne Bailey Rae' provided a more relaxed, up-close and personal feel at Longitude Bar, Yas Hotel. Rae's unmistakeable sounds drifted through the open air venue and got the audience singing along as she performed her crowd favourites "Girl Put your Records On" and "Like A Star" as well as material from her latest album The Sea.

John Lickrish, Managing Director of Flash Entertainment said: "The atmosphere was electric in Yas Arena, and the anticipation palpable throughout the crowd. We all knew Prince would give a unique performance, but last night's after-race concert was something special for Abu Dhabi. Famed for his exuberant stage presence and astonishing vocal range, Prince is the perfect artist to celebrate the exciting end to the Formula 1 season.

"The after parties on Yas Island have been a great success as they kept the Island alive after the race. The legendary Skybar from Beirut has been a great addition to the entertainment in Abu Dhabi, and it's also been fantastic to entertain guests with another genre of music at the Intimate Evening's at Longitude Bar."

Sunday night's events ended a fantastic month of entertainment for the city of Abu Dhabi. From racing inspired art in The Art of Racing to motorsport flavoured entertainment and family fun in the F1 Fan ZoneTM to the free Beats on the Beach concerts on Abu Dhabi Corniche and the Yas Arena concerts, Yasalam 2010 has been a celebration like no other.

With concerts and entertainment planned every weekend for the next five weeks as part of Yas Island Show Weekends, the action in Abu Dhabi shows no signs of slowing down.

Abu Dhabi, UAE (28 September 2010) - Pop icon Prince will headline a series of concerts at Yas Island, organisers confirmed Tuesday. Hip hop star Kanye West and alternative rock band Linkin Park are also set to perform in Abu Dhabi, following the second edition of the capital’s Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. West will perform on the first night, while Linkin Park take to the stage on November 13, before the ‘Purple Rain’ singer brings things to a close on November 14. The concerts are only open to those holding tickets to the Grand Prix. But people without tickets can take in several other artists at Al Sahil Beach the Abu Dhabi corniche, including American R&B singer Kelis and the Arabic superstars Nancy Ajram and Fares Karem. The events are part of Yasalam 2010, which organisers Flash Entertainment are calling a month-long party of “once-in-a-lifetime experiences inspired by the passion, energy, and glamour of motorsport”. Also on the calendar are a series of activities around the capital, called Yasalam Live Across the City, including community programmes in universities and public locations, as well as live events, exhibitions and entertainment on the corniche. Except for the after-race concerts, all events are free to the public. Nearly half a million people attended last year’s Yasalam events, Flash Entertainment Managing Director John Lickrish said. “Yasalam remains a vital tool with which to project our growing ambitions as an international entertainment and leisure destination. We once again look forward to another spectacular month of celebrations across Abu Dhabi as we build up to one of our biggest sporting events on November 14,” Ossama Khoreibi, Chairman of FLASH Entertainment said in a media statement.

Dear All!
I managed to get tix - not going to disclose how cause it involves loads of juicy details - and me and hubby got to the venue just around 8pm.

Venue was amazing as it was outdoors, on a grassy area with a big stage and 2 huge screens beside the stage.

We waited until around 9:30 when he entered.

As magical, majestic and incredible as ever.

He sang some oldies, like Uptown, U got the look, Controversy, Rasberry Beret and some newer stuff, but none of his stuff from Musicology onwards and I guess that's cause the crowd were not really only consisting of pure Prince fans since they had all attended the F1.

He did 3 - NOTE THREE - encores and he kept saying he doesn't want to go home.

I can describe how it felt. This is my 5th Prince concert, but I never cease to be amazed at his genius.
He looked really good as well, not as skinny as a while ago and he joked around loads.

He also didn't really censor any of his lyrics, which was refreshing.
Shelby J did an amazing job as well and if you are not friends with her on FB get on there right now as she shares loads of personal pics and comments a lot throughout the whole tour.

ABSOLUTELY FUNKALICIOUSLY FANTABULOUS.

I feel so blessed to have been able to get my hands on those tickets.

biggrin
