A prophet is an individual who is claimed to have been contacted by the supernatural or the divine, and serves as an intermediary with humanity, delivering this newfound knowledge from the supernatural entity to other people. The message that the prophet conveys is called a prophecy.

In Prince's case, to me it would seem that everyday he's been on this earth he's been contacted by a 'Supernatural' or a 'Divine' Force--or to put into other words, a "Higher Power" to do what he does. Awww, but first, what is a "Higher Power"? Second, who is Prince's "Higher Power"?? Third, does Prince accept, reject, rejoice, or curse each time his "Higher Power" contacts him. Then depending on this "Divine Moment" with his "Higher Power" would that interfere, promote, confuse or clarify the message or prophecy that he delivers after being summoned or contacted by his "Higher Power." And to whom or what or why is his message to be delivered? And lastly, is he contacted by only one "Higher Power" or many???

I've thought about this frequently in the 25+ years I've been closely following Prince's actions, recordings of non-released music, cds, concerts, aftershows, afteraftershows, unannounced gigs, etc. Please allow me to continue. First what is a "Higher Power"? Remember there is no right or wrong answers to this discussion. People who focus only on the black or white, the yes or no, the right or wrong will have a hard time opening their minds up to the grey zone, to the maybe this or possibly that, to the multitude and complexity of responses that these seemingly simple questions will inexpicably invite. BUT IF YOU CAN APPRECIATE WHAT EVERYONE HAS TO SAY AND ACCEPT THAT THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER THEN THIS DISCUSSION CAN SERVE US AS AN ENLIGHTENMENT--WE WILL BE ENLIGHTENED BY EACH AND EVERYONE OF US HERE ON THE ORG! Are you with me? GOOOOOD Lets have some fun!

"HIGHER POWER"

To me, God is a "Higher Power". So what is God? Prince said it best in "Anna Stesia" when he says 'Love is God and God is Love'. Step with me for a sec as I take this further...I am a person, an entity or being for that matter, and I would like to feel that by being a living creature on this earth, I generate a power. And my power is strong in certain ways and very weak in others. What is unique about me is that I have the power to get people to do things they have never done before or would not otherwise do without me exerting my power on them. Belive it! I'll get you to do things you never even knew existed...if I want to Now Prince has a unique power to create art in the form of music, poetry, choreography, etc. So I believe that if Prince and I got together, our two powers together would then form a "Higher Power," at least a power higher than the power we generate by ourselves.

So lets pretend for a second that Prince and I met at his hotel The Palace in Montreux last summer and engaged in a discussion where I told him the feelings (happy, excited, at ease) I get when his band plays his newer, more "pretty" songs compared to the feelings (sexy, seduced, alive, passionate) I get when I hear the guitar blast in 'Joy in Repetition'. And since I have an incredible charming, convincing, encouraging, loving power (don't believe me? Ask Tavis and Professor West), I know I could inspire Prince to record a new song based on the message he felt or received that day from a "Supernatural or Divine Force" that was created when our two individual powers summated together to form our "Higher Power." Wait, isn't that how 'Colonized Mind' was born??

Or take another case in point, like when Prince went to see George Clinton and Funkadelic and then called Sheila E. the second the show was over to meet him at Sunset Sound Studios and 45 minutes later 'Erotic City' was born. In essence, the summation of George Clinton and Funkadelic, Sheila E., and Prince's powers into one "Higher Power" touched or contacted Prince to convey the message or deliver the prophecy of 'Erotic City'.

But wait, you're just PHUNK on the Org, you're not divine or supernatural. Like what? You think you're God PHUNK? Get a grip man! You're just one of us Orgers. What are you trying to convince us of? That you have elevated your human status to a higher level? If Prince is a prophet, meaning he receives contact from the supernatural then acting as the intermediary with humanity delivers a prohecy to us based on that contact, who do you think you are?

I am God brotha! You better believe it! And so are you! Or put another way, I can be God as long as I give love cause thats what God is, right? Prince said it best in my opinion, 'God is love, and love is God!' I believe that if I wasn't looking for or expecting anything in return other than Prince's respect and love and he recognized that, that the "Higher Power" are two powers summated to were special, out of love--divine like, or from God.

Yeah PHUNK, as if you have you ever seen God?

Brotha, I see him all the time! That is of course when I'm able to be selfless and I let him in my life. To do that, I need to be giving love to someone, something, some cause without the expectation of anything in return. When I do that, God appears. If Sheila E. would have told Prince, "OK, I'll meet you at Sunset Sound but only if you pay me 100K when I get there," you think Erotic City would have sounded the same? I doubt it.

Before I digress further, I want to know what all you crazy muthafunkin Orgers think about all this! And is this maybe why Prince's music is different these days--because the "Higher Powers" making contact with him leads him to suspect they have alterior motives and its affecting his music--not necessarily in a good or bad way--but is it affecting his music in any way?
