Renato isn't with him right now because he's with someone else. Renato hasn't just been here for a minute. He's been working with Prince over the past 10 years. | |

Saw him in Aldeia do Meco, Portugal last july. He was there onstage with mr P for a brief while. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. | |

I never cared for Renato keyboard style, to me it didn't marry well with Prince's style. For instance, Lisa could be Funky (DMSR) and melancholy (Power Fantastic), I guess what I am trying to say is Renato style didn't have layers. During "Baby Im a Starr" Rento, would do a jazz solo...really? | |

I get where you are coming from.
When I first saw him on the ONA tour, I thought he fit with what was going on at the time. I didn't think he would fit with P's funky music, though. I felt I was correct when I heard live music from that era (pre-musicology). I heard boots of him playing solos on songs like Controversy, Days of Wild, DMSR, etc. and he really had to grow and learn to be "funky".
By the middle of the Musicology tour, I think he finally figured out how to play "funk" solos and not necessarilly jazz.
Now, I do feel that Renato is among the best keyboardist P has ever worked with. He brought something different to P's music that wasn't there before. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
