Chris Coleman talks about new Prince album>New new Album on the way ?

Hi

the current issue of drums&percussion (a German drum magazine) features an extensive article on Chris Coleman (Prince's new drummer). In the interview, Chris talks about working with Prince and about songs he recorded with Prince (an Tal Wilkenfeld, an amazing female bass player!). He says that something between 8 and 11 songs are on the shortlist for a new album. He also says that HE HOPES that the album will come out at the end of the year.

I don't have a scanner or time to translate the whole article rolleyes , but I thought I'd share this with you!

Cheers,

Thanx 2 funkybluecheese for this!!

So he's the new drummer? What about reports of John Blackwell returning? Maybe he'll have several bands? Who knows, just have to stay tuned, as always

i havnt read the whole articel but i found a snippet.

http://www.drumsundpercussion.de/index.php?id=435

he is talking how we came along with prince thrue Tal Wilkenfeld. and they recorded songs like "Hot Summer".

now i think this new drummer was just an studio drummer and not for concerts. we will see if this record sees the light of the day - i doubt that.

Translated by Google:

Chris Coleman

New addition to Prince

Chris Coleman is an incredibly nice fellow, but it has fist-thick behind the ears as soon as he sits behind his kit. With technique, wit, and plenty of creativity, he was finally a caliber like Prince convince.

We met Coleman in "Modern Drummer" Festival in New York and five weeks later at the Meinl Drum Festival in Gutenstetten to talk, and this begins as it should be otherwise, right here ...

Let's talk about your current employer Prince times. How was it for you and how carefully it is a light form of the music world to work with that?

"What can I say? Just great. We have recorded enough tracks for a CD, and are now on the shortlist of eight to eleven of them - but not in my hands. I stumbled over the bassist Tal Wilkenfeld at Prince. There was this' Bass Player 'live' event, where I accompanied a friend on drums - and the valley was to us along with Vinnie Colaiuta on stage. The course did not let me escape and talked with her, Vinnie and his Tech. In LA I have with him a rehearsal space, and so one knows, of course. Valley took the whole thing pretty seriously and invited me to a session in the studio, where she worked just a. Now such invitations are often known before, but in the end rarely about - either because they do not match dates or be containing only a friendly but empty phrase. In this case it was different, and when I showed up with her then, we have actually worked together on songs. At first I thought these were intended for her album, but then they said this not to be so - but she did not call the artist. To make a long story, the next day she told me that it was Prince - and I was flabbergasted. I then gave her some of my material with, Prince liked it and let me fly into the valley and his Paisley Park studio to jam. First, I jammed with Prince alone. He played bass, and from then on it went, we jammed for three, recorded songs and pretty much had fun. One song, 'Hot Summer' is running in the U.S. on the radio, and I hope the CD will be the year. "

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Right, this is the lowdown on the Chris Coleman situation. 20ten was once again meant to be a double album when it was released in america. Disc two would've included Hot Summer and Cuase and Effect, songs like that. Both songs feature Chris Coleman on drums. Whatever happened to the plans, who knows.

What are the sources of this 2 disc rumour? All I know is someone speculating that it's called 20ten because there are 10 tracks on the European release and 20 tracks on the US release. It's interesting that this speculation is now received as truth. Or did I miss something?

The interview took place in JUNE (the date of the Meinl Drum Festival), so he was probably just refering to 20Ten.

He was refering about working studio sessions this year & it seems that the songs he talked about are not on 20ten !

PS>Did u hear a lot of real drums on 20ten....no.....so maybe we will get some good surprises in the months 2 come?

Prince recording other songs during album sessions and them not actually appearing on an album is not a new thing. He has been doing this since his first album. Having other songs which are recorded during the same session as an album does not mean that there will be another album.

Maybe the plans/songs got shelved, like a million other prince songs/projects.

Hot Summer and Cause & Effect are two terrible, uninspired songs. There is nothing unfortunate about not hearing anything else from this session.

OLD, said even before the Ebony feature. 20ten took the album's spot. Chris hoped for the tracks he was on to be released as an album but had no idea Prince had just tracked 20ten.

It's pretty obvious we'll have a new (dispappointing) Prince album before spring. The guy can't stay too long without publishing a new album.

Hasn't he recorded some stuff with Esperanza Spalding too ?

I've heard this about many b sides and extras that don't make it for the first or that release, but later is used in concert for extra's and specials. Yeah!

But it is , we are to have an additional album shortly????eek

Oh, this is nice, I have 20ten and it is good. I least like compassion, but it has some old beats to it. I think, I wanted a slow jam or ballad with him in compassion, but any Prince aka Love Sexy will do

cool
