I agree, Tal would be a great addition, her solo album is fantastic.

I thought these 2 were brought up in a similar discussion during the LotusFlow3r album release?

Umm.... not really. Most of the players Prince works with don't return once they're gone. Mr. Hayes and Eric Leeds being exceptions. I guess Fink and Renato might have come back, too. I'm sure there's others people will list. But in general, players don't return. If John Blackwell is returning I'll actually be pretty surprised.

What went down between Prince and Candy?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hadn't heard anything about that, either. In fact, I'm pretty sure I read an article where she said good things about him not too long ago.

Something happened with those London shows. I remember it being similar to the Jam/Lewis missed flight/subsequent firing thing. Prince esta muerto...

?
Funkenberry already said that John Blackwell was back as the drummer... |

Thats what I was thinking, he wasn't on some tour - can't remember which one between 1993-2010 but he certainly has been there the last 7-8 years.

LARRY GRAHAM! | |

Wow, really? Did he give you more details?

wow what happen 2 Candy? Did I miss something

Don't joke. I think it's likely that it is Larry.
Think about it: One can assume that with no Cora, then that means Josh is also out. So it's a bass player most likely. It's already been established that it's a ex-bandmember. Rhonda is currently with Jeff Beck. Sonny T? Maybe, but him without Michael B just doesn't feel right. Levi or Brown Mark? Highly unlikely given that they've been out of the Prince camp for such a long time.
So that leaves Larry. He's been touring with GCS for the last year or so, so he's in form, he guested on stage at some of the earlier 20Ten shows, and we all know he and Prince have been bible buddies for a long time and lives in Minneapolis too. So I think it all points to a return to the NPG for Larry.
I hope this isn't the case. I'm as big a Larry fan as anyone, but as Prince's bass player I'd much rather see any of his other former bassists, or someone new and fresh. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Thank you! That's exactly how I feel about that entire situation.

the two bandmembers he really needs back is Wendy & Lisa...sure he can make very good music without them...but the three together were just genius

Good news. Hopefully this signals that he'll be switching up the setlist, too.
I vaguely remember reading about some drama with Candy, but did something happen with Marva? I was under the impression that she simply took a break to focus on her own career for a while.
How come? Prince played several shows with John (and Rhonda and Renato) last year.

Don't know - just seems like that's how it always works out. Especially those who have done big tours with him. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOOOOVE to have both of them back. John, Rhonda and Renato, really - with Maceo, Eric and Greg. I love that band. Just doesn't seem very likely.

Tal was somehow injured this summer while on tour with Herbie Hancock. She had to cancel the North American leg of his tour. Herbie's tour will resume in Europe in october. Assuming Tal is better, she will play with Herbie.

Candy does not have problems with Prince. She was hired for the O2 residency, showed up in London and was told there she wasn't needed after all, because there already were two saxes in the horn section. She didn't play and, as she was fully paid for the first week, she was annoyed, but not mad.

I expect Wendy and Lisa to play a few gigs, last time they did was back in 06/07 with Prince at the Brits .... I'm sure they would like to play Europe

Wendy sans Lisa played with Prince at the 7/7/7 concert, Sheila E was there as well. TRUE BLUE

Your both right. And Eric was only playing for Prince this year or last year something like that. Prince seems pretty tight with Eric and Morris. I think Eric takes the hat for being the longest member. I heard something happened between Candy and Prince few years ago but not online dont know what was said online and I'm not gonna repeat it on here not my place to, but the reasons wasnt anything too bad, they just had there differences and parted ways, she'll never come back. As for Marva don't how she got into it and I know nothing about her, I just presume hes more concentrating on Shelby now, shes more of a power singer and the other two current singers are the same. btw Marva wasnt very good at the o2/Indigo. She may return coz shes been in and out P's projects for ages too but I really can't see her returning at all.
Love him to bring Rhonda and John Blackwell on a more permanent basis but I can only wish, with him changing his band like the wind it will be very interesting who he brings for this mini tour. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

With all respect 2 John Blackwell, I really wouldn't want a return 2 the Musicology band in any way.
I still can't understand the negativity Josh & Cora get 'round here.
Cora's playing shouldn't even be compared 2 John Blackwell, as their styles R completely different. Blackwell is like Fire, where Cora is like Earth.
That's all. "He's a musician's musician..."

Rock solid.......like a brick. They are pedestrian musicians and have no business performing with Prince.
