Dollars and cents/sense I'm amazed at the amount of old footage that is on Youtube.... If Prince is looking for ways to earn based on his artistic content, why doesn't he create a site or DVD release of the 1,000's of hours of footage he has recorded through the years?

Because it's all on youtube for free
Being silly, but I am surprised how many people are finding stuff new to them that's been uploaded to youtube, I mean it's all been out there for donkey's years any way, what have you folks been doing all this time?!

I can not grasp why he makes so many videos, films rehersals, live performances, etc... and lets it collect dust. If he's bored, he should try golfing.

Because Prince isn't interested in doing things any other way than his own and he tends to see his vault as something he earned for himself. I've never once seen Prince actually admit to being committed to opening the vault for his fans at all. He's well aware of the interest, but I doubt Prince has the courage or the care to actually release volumes of vault material. He sees it as admitting some kind of defeat, as well. Why release something old when you can just record something new?

Well 2 quote his manager " That's just the way he is" oh well!

I like your take on The Vault... I get frustrated when other great artists package some classic material for the Holidays each year, or particapate in Crossroads concerts, storytellers, etc. when prince would put them all to shame. In my opinion.

Absolutely!
Even the sleeping beauty awoke at some point...

Part of me wonders if he is scared to lose his live audience and he does not release a DVD because he wants people to have to buy a ticket in order to see him sing Purple Rain.
But then there is Rave & Live in Vegas, both pretty bad, so who knows? My Legacy

Rave and Vegas were disastrous releases.
If he's gonna chop and edit a concert I'd rather have him not release any dvds (or live cds, for that matter).
