I loved that the first 2 releases were visually all about the music. And the 3rd single is one of Prince's all time greatest songs.

Obviously, it's my own subjective opinion, so thanks for calling it load of bollocks.
It's easily Prince's most overrated record because of the "oh it was his last great album" stuff that I simply cannot relate to.

^Then you have a problem with your musical taste.
Except for the cringeworthy cover, everything about this album, 12"s and tour was marvellous.
And it was NOT his last great album.

I am aware of OldFriends4Sale collection of threads which I greatly admire and contribute to.
As stated when I started this journey, the Celebration threads are about celebrating the music of Prince and are made of my recollections from first hearing the albums to relistening now. They aren't meant to take away from other threads, or be the be all and end all of the discussions.
Hopefully what they do is bring the discussion back to the music of Prince, and let people express how they feel about the releases - good bad or indifferent.
So lets get to talk about the music. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Swa,
I dig what you do on the MJ and Prince discussion topics. They bring back a flood of memories about my first time listening to the select albums.
Keep it up "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

The Livesexy Tour is what had me appreciate this album more and it's one of my wife's favorite albums, so that helps. [img:$uid]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/9.gif[/img:$uid] Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

A Landmark album and one of his most significant. Easily one of his funkiest ever, its a non stop party and the vibes buzzing out of it, one of his most fun albums, yet it contained a song as brilliant as Anna Stesia (How can anyone make God so appealing) and one of the catchiest singles ever, Alphabet street. Some of the songs arent as good like Dance On, but theres something here for everyone. A true masterpiece, I give it 9/10 as its not up there with the big 4 (Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, 1999, SOTT all classic 10/10 ) But its in the second echelon- the Excellent 9/10 group of Parade, Controversy, Lovesexy, Symbol, TGE and 3121 for me.
I think I going to listen to Anna Stesia now (That song is a 10/10 classic) So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

One of the few Prince albums of the 1980-1995 years that I don't like...
I like some songs (Alphabet, Glam Slam, Anna, title-track, I Wish U heaven extended version, and the end of Positivity... but I cannot listen the entire album in a row ... ... for me, it's an unlistenable mix of spiritual music, late-80s dance/pop & gay pop ... with bland drums and cheesy synths...

I can understand why it might be a hit or miss album for some - but to me it's one of his finest.
Can't agree though on bland drums - Dance On is a fine example of some pretty funky drumming. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"
