Prince on MTV Unplugged

I wish Prince did something like that,

with just him and an acoustic guitar and a a couple of band members

Or maybe a VH1 storytellers. What do you all think?

Just watched that set again. When the Camera's get back on P after the break, does P pretend to throw a pick into the audience and say "Sike" ? BADASS biggrin

The Musicology thing was cool, but a full acoustic band and Prince doing complete versions of his songs (not only one verse/audience singing half the song) might be nice, too.

It looked 2 me like he took a ring off his finger and pretends 2 throw it, says "sike" and then tosses it anyway...it could be a pick though lol

The 06/24/02 acoustic set during the Xenophobia Celebration is pretty bad ass.

The Musicology tour acoustic portions were great (or not, depending on the show) because they were never exactly the same. Not in song selection or length. Definitely recommend checking out the 06/01/04 set in San Jose.

some people do not spend every hour of every day reading every inane thread on this site, and as a result they ask questions that other people have asked before. Shame on them and their non-encyclopedic knowledge of prince.org!

At some point, I think the plan was to have him do an MTV Unplugged during the Diamonds & Pearls era. Prince And The New Power Generation appeared in a promo for the new episodes of Unplugged that aired during the '91 MTV Video Awards. Must have changed his mind and/or lost interest in the project.

I'd like to see Prince with just him and his guitar, no one else. Just him playing and singing, up close and personal. Would be super great as a littlw show at PP or a small venue..I'd want front row middle seats. Would be heaven! biggrin
Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

At the time of the MTV unplugged series Prince was musically totally lost so i'm not that sure it would have been that great. Or may be it would have helped him to go back to writing songs rather than hip hop influenced gimmicks.

I wouldn't mind seeing him playing all alone with his guitar, but i'd rather see him playing all alone his piano.

I'd like to see him play piano in a jazz trio. But my dream would be to see him perform with an old school type big band.

Yeah I was really hopeful during Diamonds & Pearls he would have done Unplugged. It might have been like the video for Willing & Able, Prince & the band doing their thing, maybe have guests like Mavis do some songs from The Voice. Missed opportunity

Well, he'd only need to spend a good amount of YEARS devoted to learn how to play jazz for that to happen. Same for jazz guitar.

If you expect him to play like Art Tatum or Wes Montgomery, of course, but i think he could do a pretty good job if he took the time to do it weel

I don't think he could keep up unless he worked really hard at it, and it seems he's given up on working hard. (which- btw- I am totally cool with. He doesn't have to do anything to impress me.)

On which instrument ? I agree he wioould have to work hard on the piano, but on the guitar he's never been so good.

I'd say either one. It's one thing to play jazzy sounding stuff and another to actually play jazz, through all the fast key changes.

He could do it though if he wanted to, it would just take a lot of work.
