Mad sex Anyone feeling that song from the much hated New Power Soul ?
I prefer the slightly rougher demo version circulating, but I like this song. Not a classic in any way, but a pleasant funky tune.

Funky Music was the only song I ever liked on that Album.

That album never happened!!!!! Can't ignore it though, it was the turning pony which split the Prince community

Except 'Come on' and 'Wasted Kisses' ?
'Mad Sex' is quite funny but 'Housequake' was already there...

Hated as the album is, for me it's infinitely better than anything post TRC. No contest.

I'm not gonna lie, I think NPS is a great album save for "Freaks on This Side" and "Push It Up".
"Mad Sex" is a great song and the album also has standout, top notch stuff like "The One", "Come On", "Wasted Kisses", "Funky Music", and "When You Love Somebody"... It gets way more shit than it deserves.

Lad Sex is cool needs to be heard and played into a circle space where the sound can surround oneself and vibrate inside o' the body, though not as good as: Come on ( and also all the live versions ...a master piece)

"Mad Sex" is one of the stronger tracks. Has a real groove to it. Love the bubbling rubber bass line, the bebop piano/horn line - stylistically very reminiscent of "Rockhard In A Funky Place", and there's some cool vocal harmonies in there too - "See you at another paaaarrttaaaay" Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Damn you and your sorcerers ways - you've made me dig out the album again!!! I've realised a few things: 1) it seemed lame at the time but this album actually has bit of the Prince I miss. 2) it's still duff compared to it predecessors 3) Until Ure In My Arms Again marked the start of that horrible singing style he uses now. 4) When U Love Somebody has been sorely missed by my lug-holes 5) sigh....Mad Sex is stuck in my head and I keep singing it out loud....but I'm off to London for an important conference - I hope I don't blurt it out

The album is pretty mediocre but not worse than emancipation, N.E.W.S or Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic

I quite like Mad Sex. Don't mind the song either. hoho. Actually, I never really saw the whole hate thing for the album. It's by no means a classic, but being stuck in the middle of Emancipation/crystal ball/rave, I have to say it actually holds its head up quite well.
Doug E Fresh needs erradicating from existance, but apart from that, it's a fairly solid album in my opinion. blah blah blah

Doug E Fresh needs erradicating from existance, but apart from that, it's a fairly solid album in my opinion. I can only speak from my point of view but I dislike/disliked it for a number if reasons: 1) At the time it sneaked into the shops under my radar which had never happened before and that made mecsuspcious (I actually though it was a bootleg when I saw it). It also seemed really plasticy compared to previous stuff; very 2 dimensional with not much depth or thought to it. 2) it represented a whole turning point in Princes career for me - everything that hooked me and kept me there previously disappeared and my Prince-ometer went down a notch. He spent most of his time verbally sucking Larrys dick, wheeling out Chaka Khan and spouting rubbish. For me his career went downhill from this point; from consistenly good to only now and again hitting the Mark. BUT.... After listening again, as the turning point, it is inevitably better than some later stuff. As for Dougie Fresh - just another weird choice

I can certainly see where you're coming from and agree with you pretty much 100%. However, just from a music point of view, for me (someone who was disappointed by the plasticy emancipation, disappointed by so much filler on Crystal Ball), it held together much better than the rambling opuses it followed. It's still got some total shit on there, but it's got a few tracks that make me smile or bob my head.
But yeah, it's evident that Larry was sinking his talons into Prince around this time. And as for Doug E Fresh... yeah very odd. Mind you, Dizzee Bastard's done very well for himself utilising that 'rapping' style. blah blah blah

Mad Sex is one of my favourite P songs of the 90s and was probably his last great sleazy funk record.
I didn't know there was a demo floating about? Are you sure it's not the 69 remix? [Edited 9/24/10 1:58am]

Yes I like this song and no I do not hate New Power Soul. I dont really care for Until Youre In My Arms Again, When You Love Somebody, or Come On. This is a pretty funky cd. It keeps a steady vibe throughout with the mentioned songs edited out.

Doug E Fresh was a weird choice (not as weird as TC Ellis but weird anyway) because at the time Prince chose to work with him he was outdated and there was plenty of efficient MC's he could have chosen, but you can't say the man who was a beat box precursor and created such early hip hop classics as "the show" & " la di da di" needs erradicating from existance !

No, not a remix. I'll try to find the source of the demo version i got. As i said the differences with the released version are minimal, it just has a slightly less polished sound.

Are there any good live recordings of Mad Sex?
I loved the live rendition of Come On from the Beautiful Strange concert.

Sex mad = "Turn U Loose", "Elixer", "Boom" are first that come to mind...
No machines = Entire Rainbow Children and Lotusflow3r albums, most of Musicology and 3121, just about everything else released in the One Nite Alone era...
Layered songs = "The Greatest Romance", "The Word", "Future Soul Song" - songs that come to mind with great layering of vocals and sounds...
Songs that stick = Well, this one's the most debatable and up to the individual listener, but I think there are lots of catchy songs on Musicology and 20Ten in particular...

I had a live version, not adding anything to the studio version, with very poor sound. I think he rarely played it.
