The Human Factor found this in my old filing cabinet today:
The Human Factor
As Frontline reporter Douglas Rushkoff states, the corporate machine has succeeded by forcing the human factor out of the equation. In his words, "they don't call it human research or people research, they call it market research".
By creating trends instead of allowing them 2 surface, the corporate machine has complete control over the whole cycle of producing and consuming. It has managed 2 become quicker than time itself and created a situation that amounts 2 a cultural standstill.
What it hasn't done yet, however, is take control of r own free will. The corporate world knows what makes us consumers. But it has no idea of what makes us human. It has no idea of what makes art art.
It doesn't know what an emotion actually is. It can copy it, mimic it, package it, sell it - but it cannot grasp it.
There r still true artists out there who share this intimate knowledge of what makes us what we r and, thru a single musical phrase or written sentence, can literally open worlds 4 us 2 xplore. And many people r persuaded that providing access 2 these artists and their art is something that is worth fighting 4.
It requires patience. It can seem hopeless at times. But humanity knows how 2 surpass itself, when it does - well, it's freezer burn compared 2 cool.

what are your thoughts on this ?

why? i think it's pretty straightforward, gives a good summary of the problem with the corporate machine
seems to be even more of a problem these days, plenty of people dont know what an emotion is, at least you never see them show any
i wonder how long it will take for the robots in the corporate world to evolve, or will they just become extinct? this too shall pass

prince wrote a lot of interesting things, including the one song spiel
why do these writings remain ignored? or are they just not understood? this too shall pass

I believe the gist of the article is that real art and emotion are interconnected.
Pretty much hes saying art is an expression of human emotion and the corporate world uses "man made" emotions for profit and the corporate machine is creating "creativity" but for every corporate scheme their will always be what he calls the "human factor" . The very thing makes us who are and thats our purpose for existing. ( or at least thats what i got from the reading )
but see my question is ..
if the corporate machine is producing "faux" emotions, why is it that so many people fall victim to these mimicked emotions. Can everyone tell the difference between them or just some people, and if just some people can tell, why ? i mean.. if im human i should be able to grasp real emotions. does that make me less human if i dont?
plus i really like this quote
But humanity knows how 2 surpass itself, when it does - well, it's freezer burn compared 2 cool.
but i really dont get it fully.. what is he trying to say ?

prince musings get ignored because most prince fans are ignorant. like hip hop without the politics, break dancing and graffiti. consumers like prince for his bubble gum pop but dont want spirituality love intelligence or revolution. they are programmed saturated with ideas of how to spend money and feed urges. prince correct when he suggest no longer trends become but rather trends intentionally created .. this is civilization corrupted from within .. minds bodies souls overthrown broken into a state of numbed repetition and thoughtlessness ... people choose gluttony and ignore the truth people enslave them selves with ignorance

Yeah I remember these writings. They are from around 2000 if I remember correctly. They are not "creepy". On the contrary. They are truthful and insightful. On the other hand, after publishing these writings, Prince has worked with the "corporate machine" that has no "emotions" plenty of times. It makes these writings empty, meaningless and emotionless, as you can hear too in his music since then.

I know what you mean, but don't assume that they are ignored.
They aren't understood (or wanted, or agreed with perhaps) en masse, but it doesn't mean that they don't still touch a lot of his fans.
One of the reasons I love Prince so much is because of the wisdom contained across his body of work. A line here, a song there, a quote from somewhere else entirely. I'm sure everyone finds something different when they put together all of the pieces that are relevant to them, but then, that's the beauty of genuine art, right?

Bullshit. - a rant my a person who signed up to a system (more than once) when he needed it but tried to shake it off when he thought he was too good for it. Depending on your point of view that symbiotic system which he willingly signed up to also acted as either a quality control method or a cap on his musical oil well which is now spurting unpredictably. I don't buy it - it's from his 'look how clever I am phase' where he pointed out other useful things like Santa Clause was similar to Satans Claws...oddly never mentioned that 'Princes Music After Larry' is an anaogram of 'Pruriency farts miracles'

sure, its good to know his 'wisdoms' arent completely overlooked.
i agree with him about the corporate world, he makes a valid point in The Human Factor. this too shall pass

Wow...very interesting, thought provoking, and quite wise on Prince's part. The man is more than just a genius musician and pretty face....he has a very interesting, relevant, and realistic point of view. He is so right in this article, the "world" doesn't like what's good, moral, or amazing. They just want what's new, immoral, and self-satisfying at the moment. I am so proud and inspired by Prince who continues to be himself and not sell out to become what the media wants him to be. I hope he continues to not live through other people's eyes, keep his nice handle on humanity, and make his music from his heart.[i] Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Oh and I wish people would really listen to him since he has plenty of good thing to say.
And people need to not judge him by his look or what he's done, just listen to his genius with an open mind, and they will see him in a whole new light. The man is a deep thinker![i] [Edited 9/23/10 20:52pm] Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol
