Could Prince have been a better rapper/singer than Drake? I know Prince dabbled with Hip-Hop/Rap in the late eighties and early nineties with his band, the NPG. Prince's song "Bob George" is kinda like Hip-Hop cause he is talking over a beat. I don't think he was as bad as Tony M. and had he stuck with it could have been better than him. Then I thought about the singer/rapper, Drake who is the hottest young artist out in the game now. I don't really care for him because IMO he sounds too much like Lil Wayne, his mentor. You think Prince could out sing/rap Drake?

This argument is invalid. You're forgetting about the Tony M. factor. I still play pokemon. I play warcraft. And I'm awesome.

Prince doesn't like rap. He never really understood this music. He tried to deal with it when - i guess - he felt he had no choice, but it was terrible. Terrible hip hop gimmicks ruined many of his songs in the 90's.
He employed awful rappers like TC Ellis. Imagine how interesting it coul have been if he had worked with people like Q-tip, Redman, EPMD or RAkim !

It's true, forgot about it. It was quite disappinting to me... especially listening to the Q-Tip excellent last effort. I would have loved it he they worked together during the Tribe Called Quest era.
In recent interview in swiss magazine Vibrations, he stated several times how much he hates rap. I think he likes some of it, but dosen't like it as a whole movement of non-musician making music and like many of us hate the gangsta imagery.

By (P & Q-tip) working together, i didn't mean Q-tip adding vocal on a 100% prince produced track, i meant really intercating and building music together.

Slightly hypocritical coming from a man who often speaks or 'raps' his songs now ...and had a rap song called Gangster Glam (although a midget running around in a Hilda Ogden head scarf Speedos and braces isn't your traditional gangster look)

we'll i've been in the studio with prince when he said he liked "biggie smalls", that was a few years ago. prince is known for saying one thing one minute and changing his mind the next

I think he has a love/hate relation with rap. Which is understandable for a trained musician. What is disappointing is his choice of partners to explore this musical field.
You can talk over music and still do not like rap. The rapping/talk over routine is not exclusive to hip hop. Gil Scott Heron, Rudy Ray Moore, Isaac Hayes, The Last poets, James Brown used to "rap" long before hip hop birth.

It has nothing to do with being hypocritical. He is not a real gangster and a lot of gangster rappers are former criminals bragging about their crimes. Loads of RnB artist dress up like gangsters and talk a lot of crap it is called being entertaining it is a lot different when you really have a criminal past and maybe still committing crimes.

Prince can out sing Drake any day. In fact loads of other artist are better singers than this guy.
He can'not rap and he cannot sing a useless artist.

Obviously. How funny would it be if he played gangster ?
Oh, but let me see... didn't he play the pimp in the past ?

Alright honestly I think prince doesnt like how there isnt alot of musicianship in rap music, because it makes no sense for him to say he doesnt like rap but still rap in alot of his songs. But back to the original question: no Prince cannot rap better than drake. Prince in my opinion is a horrible rapper, and some of you may not like rap but to say Drake isnt a good rapper is ridiculous. He is a very good rapper, Prince would have no chance against him. On the other hand, I could never take Drake seriously as a singer, I wouldnt even call him a singer. I mean just because someone sings from time to time doesnt make them a singer plus his singing is borderline mediocre at its best.

THERE IS A VALID AND TRUE Prince/Drake connection though... Drake's uncle is none other than Larry Graham. LOL So, you never know.. they might work together one day.
