NOW Okay, who here digs the song NOW? honestly, is it that bad of a song? I like it, and dig the little groove he has going, and I'm usually one to admit when prince makes a cheesy/goofy sounding song..
This is my point, just about everyone who has heard the song, whenever I play it, usually say something along the lines of "This is some stupid sh*t" comparing the song to some of Hip Hops hits currently.. is it really that bad of a song? I can think of many that are worse than this...

This song is one of the reasons that I got HEAVILY into Prince. I remember hearing it performed on "Soul Train," barely able to wait until the album was released. It is irresistibly funky and energetic- a top 10 Prince song for me to this day.

I usually hit skip but when I dont I dig the part natasha taklked about, where Prince goes ape-shit with his voice screaming the lyrics almost incomprehensibly "Climb in my fur."

Yes! The live Glam Slam versions of this songs were all pretty cool. Especially when he performed it with that long, weird instrumental part at the end which featured scratching that sounded like a huge chirping electro bird or something. My fav version of all time is the one that breaks down after the album version is through, then turns into that long instrumental and then Prince comes in again with a guitar, leading the song into "Babies makin' Babies" and proceeding to tear joint down with some psycho solo. I think it segues into "Superstition" at that point. The album version is cool too, but it just isn't loud and heavy enough. I mean, it's got a vibe, but the groove is not really monstrous and that makes it kind of silly. The live versions, just like Days Of Wild all have that extra bit which lifts the song beyond the TGE version. I always enjoy the 'video phone' part tho. That's really kitschy Prince style. Moderator | I was at the Glam Slam Miami when he did it live.
I was hooked on that song for months, humming it in my head, not knowing the words. Something about that song just stayed in my head. After a few months, I found a boot in Miami that had the whole show on CD. This was my first boot I bought. (June 7? I think it's called) The song just wasn't as cool on tape as it was right there in front of the man playin it. But at least I could figure out the words to that dang melody that was swimmin' in my head off and on for months. Then when Gold finally came out, I realized how bad I messed up decyfering(sp?) the lyrics! The album and Live version is night and day to me. Both are cool, but seperate. Hell no! I think you read that into my post there, sir. I like a lot of current hip hop. I have all of OutKast's albums and b-sides, for example. And I have a lot of hip hop in my vast, multi-faceted record collection. I don't know where you got that idea from what I said, buddy. There is no way that I am a racist, for your information and even if I was dissing current hip hop, which I wasn't...HOW would that make me racist? Sheesh. Some people. But now that you mention it, the track "Now" IS better than (or on a par with) much of current hip hop, IMO (the Jay Z's and Ja Rules of this world). "Slammin'!" I've always loved this song. When I first started seriously listening to his music I was in 8th grade in 1995. When TGE came out, I posted a top ten list or something like that on AMP, and "Now" was on there. JeeeSUS did I get flamed for that. Peeple were calling it uninspired, lame, hokey and bland. I just don't see that at all. To this day I play it at parties, and to this day it gets peeple wild. Certainly one of his best party jams, and the end just bugz me da fuck OUT!
