Here's a couple screencaps from The Ride live video, which shows the black Symbol and its damaged lower horn. It had broken off and apparently fixed with some Elmer's. I think I remember someone here saying they witnessed him breaking it - don't know which show.
i was speaking to takumi once about him throwing guitars about and he was showing me the one eyed bass that had a part glued back on after it broke from being thrown. takumi said he always had to keep an eye on the guitars to catch them, but sometimes would miss. the guitars got glued or resprayed from time to time. takumi was with prince from at least the early 95 tour |

Could've been me. I saw him break one at the second Paradiso show in 1995. He threw it down, not even aiming at a tech, and it landed wrong. Then he left the stage. Someone leaned up the stage to grab it, but one of the security guards was faster. Would've made a nice souvenir. [Edited 9/30/10 8:07am] |

No kidding! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
What an absolutely great read. It answers all kinds of questions. He does use the Clouds in the studio. The touring Model Cs were not the the one given to him. I never noticed that the subsequent Symbol guitars had less frets. Also, I thought the Gibson L6-S Deluxe with the leopard print and lights on it was singular and went through various stages of customization. Didn't know he had two.
Bravo for taking time to type that out. It's very much appreciated. I saved the text.
You are welcome. The Clouds have always been my favorite sounding and looking. Now since we're both in Minneapolis we should plan a trip to the Park to hunt down that Pink one! TRUE BLUE |

I hadn't heard that about the "One Eye'd" bass. Takumi seemed like a great guy and was very willing to answer questions at the Celebrations. You could see that he worked his ass off, too. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

Cool story. Was it the black Symbol? I saw Prince fall down while sliding down a ramp once and he threw his gold Symbol down in disgust. It wasn't visibly damaged, but Prince was hella pissed. This must have been the JOTY tour in Minneapolis, I was thinking it was the Nude Tour trial run, but he didn't have the Symbol guitar yet. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

It was the JOTY tour, the first show of two. I was there too, and he was pissed. Yelled out something about somebody's going to get fired for that! Since we're on the subject of damaged guitars, anyone know which ones he smashed up on the last Parade show in Japan? TRUE BLUE |

Thanks for refreshing my memory. I thought I read somewhere that the guitar he wrecked at that last Revolution show was a white Cloud. I have the Septembre boot of the show, but I don't recall any racket sounding like a guitar meeting its end, so maybe it wasn't damaged that bad. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

Did a little digging and found this from Wendy:
We knew it would be the last time for a while that we'd be on stage together. Sometimes It Snows In April was played during the encore and we all felt this incredible power on stage. It was almost heartbreaking. He broke all his guitar strings during Purple Rain and walked off."
I always thought he broke guitars, I guess not. TRUE BLUE |

I read that before too about the guitar strings, so I kind of wondered myself where the story of his guitar being smashed came from, because I've head that a lot as well. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

I recall the 2000 New Years Eve pay perview show when after a bass solo he threw the eye bass and it went sliding across the stage. Funny how he super glues guitars back together, I always assumed he had new ones made all the time after they were broken. |
