Yeah...that happened....but it was long ago...back in the lates seventies. It's mentioned in the first Rolling Stone interview he did. That interview also mentioned how John Coucar Mellencamp stopped his own concert and made the audience listen to Lil Red Corvette while he danced to it because he loved Prince's music so much.

Then it would be mentioned in The Vault, and I'm pretty sure it's not, so, no, I'm gonna say it didn't happen. Not in the mid-90's anyway.

The crowds circa the Gold tour did make their dissatisfaction known over the lack of hits. Hardcore fans probably are coming to realise how fresh and exciting that tour was now after all the non-stop Lets Go Crazy-Kiss medleys.

Don't know how true this is...but I heard it was these dates:

November 9 and November 11, 1981 at Dodger Stadium

I did hear the story. Gosh, that would be humiliating. Those stupid people didn't know what they were missing! They just weren't interested in hearing a black man sing, they were all about rock!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

they wanted to hear keith richards and ron wood playing guitar solos at the same time, sometimes one of them in the wrong key, because that's rock & roll thumbs up! neutral

I doubt Prince will ever be booed offstage as an established artist

I remember he threatened to walk off in Ireland (?), because they were singing "ole, ole, ole" and he didn't understand - I believe his response was "if you do that shit one more time I'm outta here"

He actually did walk off the stage during a '97 concert in the Detroit area, at what used to be Pine Knob. It wasn't the audience's fault though. He had some sort of drapery prop that the stage crew just couldn't get to work as he wanted it to and he got all pissy about it and just walked his happy ass off the stage.

Leaving the band playing and us wondering if he was coming back. Then the band suddenly stopped playing and starting packing up their equipment. It was at that time the audience began to "Boo" because it was still light outside and we were leaving. I booed his happy ass all the way home and everyday for the next week!

To his credit though, (Dang, I still remember how to do that. My! My! geek ) he did make it up to us at his next appearence in the Detroit area at The Palace of Auburn Hills the following year. At that concert, his ass hit the stage shortly after 8pm and was still on stage doing it like only he could, when I left, worn the fuck out at a quater to 1am. cool

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

And this appears to answer the original question too.

Incidently 3 years ago today - great Prince gig and aftershow I've ever been to (apart from the overtly-camp dick stood next to me who talked the whole time)
