20 ten never released in US I just got my copy of 20 Ten in the mail.IN In it's curren form i don't believe it will be released in the U.S.To me this is his best song writing in years.Hopefully he wont rely on pro tools too much. He sounds re energized now that he's back in MPLS. His US release will sund more like Laydown than any other cut on this disk. Or maybe he should record his new songs live and release those versions since his live shows re much stronger than on record

Maybe Bream knows something. Probably not, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Does that mean his trip to WB was for something other than 20Ten?

Thanks for posting this squirrel. At least Jon liked Laydown.

Either that or he did his usual trick and was bragging about WB before the deal for distribution was struck. Hopefully it was for something else though. blah blah blah

Optimistic view - Prince is not going to release "20Ten" in the US until he has a full marketing plan in place, including tour dates, interviews and TV appearances.
Pessimistic view - He couldn't make a distribution deal with WB and is now looking for other ways to distribute "20Ten".
Very pessimistic view - He's already been paid enough for "20Ten" through the European release, has forgotten about the album and is moving on to something else.

Wow, that's a very accurate review, especially from a Prince kiss-ass like Jon. "artless wad" sums up that song to a tee.

Maybe the U.S. distribution plan really was supposed to be to include the disc with Vibe Magazine after all. Maybe they just couldn't/wouldn't pay him what he wanted...
I would like to hope that the theory of it being released with a bonus disc in the U.S. was true, but we're nearing the 1 month anniversary of the European release and with every passing day I expect more and more that we may never get a US release... Every album P has released has been available world-wide. I do not think we have anything to worry about. As a fan of the man's art (work). I've been able to acquire each album in all mediums. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Um, Lotusflow3r was only released in USA and the single disc was available in France. Maybe Prince is operating a "1 for you, 1 for me" type of policy with his releases now. As things stand I don't think this will be released in USA.

Lotusflower in its entirety was available in France (+ vinyl of MPLS and LF) distributed by Because.

I think 20Ten will be released in the US. Prince met with Warner Bros on June 22nd. It seems that once a band has finished a cd it takes 3-6 months for a release to the public in the US. The US is still in that old business model.
So I figured the Cd would be out 3 months after June 22nd. Scheduling marketing, appearances, etc. Maybe we will hear something near Labor Day? Maybe Warner Bros is manufacturing the Cds too? That would add to the release delay.
I would imagine Prince would go on Jay Leno to push the album at some time.
Unless Prince does a CD release with Rolling Stone or something similar.
I am not worrying about. There is other music to listen to, life goes on. I am trying to enjoy the rest of the Summer. I would have liked to have a Prince cd, but I can wait.

What do I care? I already have it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

hopefully it will not be released here. this cd needs to disappear FAST!! Its SUCKS!!

It is true that a CD was supposed to be cover-mounted to the July Ebony. It probably wasn't the configuration of 20TEN that was released later, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Alternately, you could've labeled these views as "Unlikely", "Likely", and "Probable".

I don't think WB would touch an album that has been given away free eleswhere.
Why not just release a whole new album here?
No sense on releasing an album unless it is in support of a tour. Prince won't be able to tour here until the fall. Starting with the north then in winter working towards the south as he has done in soo many previous tours. His movements on tour are like clock work and tour dates in certain cities can be very predictable if you view them.

Though not officially released here, 20Ten seems to be getting distributed through some retail channel. There's a local music store chain here in Maine and New Hampshire - BullMoose Music - and I've seen the CD in a couple of their stores over the past couple of days. It's the same card sleeve cover mount version that I snagged on eBay for a couple of bucks a few weeks ago, but the discs are shrink-wrapped and have a barcode sticker on the back from some music distributor (it's not the store's barcode). Selling for about $14, if I remember correctly. [Edited 8/3/10 15:54pm]

I'm leaning towards the double-disc idea. I mean, it'd be easy.
All he'd have to do is just stick "Cause & Effect", "Hot Summer", "Purple and Gold", "Stand Up & B Strong", "Star", "Waiting", "Back N The Day", "The Divine" and a couple more songs, and there you go.

Im still waiting 4 20Ten 2 b released here in Sweden. I cant even order it as an import from swedish online stores wich I could when Lotusflow3r was relesed Welcome 2 The Dawn

I don't know if that's necessarily true. If you consider that most mainstream music these days is leaked onto Limewire and Bit Torrent sites, then technically those really have been "given away free elsewhere."
I think there is still a tiny market of store-going people who would buy the music in retail stores. Given that there would not be much overhead to manufacture the CD's and distribute them, why wouldn't Warner Bros or any other company want to jump on a new release by Prince. Given away for free or not...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's not WB's style. There not going to do it unless Prince signs with them.

These record companies are hurting and I don't think WB would be so quick to distribute a CD that's already been heavily pirated. That's not to say that that meeting was all for naught. Maybe they are in talks to come up with new material (ala that damn Usher thread I saw where he's re releasing his new CD with extras songs) and maybe re releasing 20Ten with more/different tracks? And perhaps mounting some kinda US tour dates? Okay that last part about the tour dates was just wishful thinking on my part. But I'm in the boat with the folks that say I'd be shocked if WB decides to distribute 20Ten as is when it's already available pretty much anywhere if you know where to look. Prince esta muerto...

Why release an album that people already either bought from eBay, bought from the Mirror, got it somewhere for free, to any record label?
He might as well just work on a new album and release it on that before people get a hold of it and choose to download it and release it to all stores and not do no deal. Sometimes deals with just one retail store don't help stop people pirating your shit.

I have a feeling that 20ten was specific release 4 a specific purpose. That purpose has been fulfilled and Prince is moving on.............2 the next episode.
