reaction when prince finally passes away when he finally passes away i think the reaction to this death will far outweigh jackos if not most crtically if not comercially
all the critics will be mourning and maybe finally realise how blessed we were to witness this once in a lifetime genius and hence shoot up the greatest guitarist, artist, live perfomer charts etc
My hope is that his body or work in the 90s is finally recognised to be at its best just as good as anything he done in the 80s [Edited 9/18/10 21:53pm] [Edited 9/18/10 21:54pm]

What will the critics be doing in the morning? I don't get it.
Prince isn't a once in a lifetime genius. A genius sure, but not once in a life time.
And the other guy's name? Michael Jackson, who a lot of the time far out shined Prince.
Why does it have to constantly be some stupid contest between MJ and Prince? Now people are weighing which death will have more attention? You REALLY think Prince's death is going to get more media attention than Michael fucking Jackson's did??? It'll get a LOT, but I'm not sure anyone's death, aside from the assassination of a President (God forbid), will top that. Not anytime soon.
Prince is up there, but there are people who have sold more records, played better guitar, etc. He's in good company, but he's not the top of the pile.

Well, ok. Until then... I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I know for me if Prince were to pass away unexpectedly, I would be devastated, I would probably burst into tears. It would be like Michael Jackson dying all over again for me. Not that I am comparing Prince to the late Michael Jackson, but that's what he is/was to me as far as a extreme feeling of caring for him through his music. I'm sure music critics will probably better appreciate him after he is gone and no longer making music. It's like the old saying:"You never miss your water until the well run dry"!

I really don't care what the critics will say.....all the critics love you in heaven! We all know what a important and creative force he is and I'll have to say how lucky I was to be here at the same time he was! I do however spend alot of time wondering how his music will be handled after he goes. Who will he entrust it with? In the back of my mind I've always thought he will release it all to any and everyone who wants it for free so the studios can't get there greedy hands on it!
I hope this won't be a reality for at least another 50 years!

My guess is the press will ignorre Prince's death.
Prince is far from popular anymore. His last hit was in 1994. Prince 4Ever.

Ok, so far there's a thread about whether or not Prince is "losing it."
A thread about him "finally getting old."
A thread about what his last album should be (a little different, I know, but still...)
and now this?
Is the org not-so-secretly trying to put our man in an early grave?
I don't care what the reaction will be like. I like him alive and singing and playing and enjoying life and am growing weary of a particular mentality that's investing so much energy in this line of questioning

Prince and Michael Jackson will always be compared, it's natural. They are/were not passing trends, but artists who stand out/stood from the crowd and whose music longetivity outshone many others. I think it's an honour that Prince is always put in the same category. Although two completely different people and two utterly different entertainers, their influence spans generations and that's what counts.
I do not think Prince's passing will outweigh Michael's though. Firstly, Michael's morphing of person throughout his years was "unusual" and secondly, the timing of his comeback and death, provided the perfect media tale of tragic success. Also, the size and influence of the Jackson family in the entertainment world and the false accusations of Michael's alleged moral wanderings, drew mass attention to Michael, in his life and death. Prince in comparison, is a silent shadow.
I would hope that in Prince's passing, not only the 90's era music would receive attention but far more the multi-faceted extent of his talent in the entire musical spectrum. There are music lovers out there that would enjoy post 80/ 90's Prince music. Too bad, they're only familiar with the media image of earlier Prince/Symbol/TAFKAP and not his current output.
Prince's withdrawal from corporate exposure has left little scandal for the media to pick up on. So when life has finished counting Prince's days, the critics will, yes probably praise him, and his "older catalogue" will shoot up in the charts. But due to the lack of ammunition Prince provides to the outside world, his more recent material and artistry will not get the attention it deserves. It's a pity, but a Sign of the Times.

the press wont ignore prince...it will be headline news around the world but it wont be to the scale of mj death for a number of reasons....mj had more mass appeal than prince and he was always in the news for a number of reasons...prince will be hailed a genius of modern music after he passes away and will be remembered as an all time great...his position on that is already assured....along with elvis, john lennon ,mj ...prince will be remembered as an important figure in 20th century popular music...
