Exactly. If people that like current music like it, that's reason enough right there for me to hate it. They have the entire radio to satisfy their dull taste. Prince needs to remain for those of us who still like to throwdown because someone has to satisfy our good taste and when he sells out on tracks like this, that's one less jam for us and one step closer to him completely selling out in the future if the thugged out Romper Roomers should happen to like it. Shit hop will never go out of style if even the older artists sell out to it. Someone has to be an alternative for those of us who have rhythm and taste and when Prince is gone, there's no one left because everyone else that jams has either retired or sold out.

I don't listen to or like any of the current music, nor hiphop/rap in general. So maybe that's why I love Laydown, since I haven't trashed my auditory system with crap off the radio.

When it comes to hating shit hop, I'm extremely smart. Unlike country or classical music, which are other genres I don't like either, I have no problem with having a "live and let live" mentality when it comes to those two genres because they've always had their own little stations and have never killed off jams and never were even a threat to jams. Shit hop, however, is the very reason there are no jams on mainstream R&B radio anymore so it is definately an enemy and deserves to be hated. I want to see the bullshit die and I hate even the slightest thing that helps to contribute to it.

I havent got a damn clue whats on the charts since about 10 or 15 years. Still, new CDs are virtually stacking in my rooms. What has so called current music got to do with me, with you, with anybody whos not into it? Whats your problem?

In this case, my ears hear Prince trying to be something he is not. It sounds like an uncool Dad trying to impress his 19 year old son's friends with an established urban saying. The joke is on Dad of course as the son and friends immediately downgrade his credibility for trying too hard.

For me - the same problem occurs with Sticky Like Glue. I actually liked the song enough to manually edit out the "rap". The song works so much better without it.

...I was "jammed" out by 1996. Newcleus' Jam on It (a full 12 years earlier in 1984) preceeded a slough of radio stations who beat that term into the ground.

There was no such thing as shit hop when "Annie Christian" was recorded. Shit hop didn't come along until the 1990s. Yes, there was rap in the 1980s but it wasn't shit hop. There's a difference in hip hop and shit hop. It became shit hop when it became stripped down, slow to midtempo, and with an ignorant thug attitude. In other words, when it became dull and stupid.

ANYWAY, people talking about "Laydown" being an hip hop song are incorrect. I don't know what "Dirty South" shit you guys are listening to, but "Laydown" would never be a hit single unless Lil Wayne or Nicki Minaj were guest rapping on it or something (and even then, only because of the duet). It's not a rap song.
