Jehovah Witness cult censorship Prince Do you think Jehovah Witness elders or whatever they called are censorshiping Prince's music something like :Hey Prince i head your new album and you have a song that is too sexual or raw,you are our member you should not do that. Do you think they do things like that, control Prince? I know Larry was leaving Prince's concerts because Prince was swearing on the hit n run 2000/2001 tour a the begining of the tour Prince was performing Darling Nikki he was also humping the stage during performance of that song, yet soon after after few bars of Darling Nikki Prince was playing Joy in Repetition instead. I'm picturing Larry running out like Apollonia in the Darling Nikki scene from Purple Rain. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Now THAT is censorship!

might be fair to say that the guidelines they espouse are enough for him to change what he says without them having to directly instruct him on it.
although i doubt the JW influence has had much bearing on him recently, with an album like Elixer and several other tunes from the lotusflow3r set being about as far removed from JW beliefs as they can get.
prince doesnt strike me as a willing Witness these days, or even a very good one god bless him this too shall pass

No one is censoring Prince, he decided to censor himself.
I don't see what the big hoo-haw is, if There'll Never Be Another Like Me was called "There'll Never Be Another Cunt Like Fucking Me", it would still be a steaming pile shit.

Not at all. If you listen to the lyrics of the Bria Valente album, you'll realize it's some of the horniest stuff Prince has ever written. "New Power slide...."

They won't or can't censor him. But as long as he continues to give the required 10% of his monetary earnings to Watchtower and Bible Tract Society he will stay in their good graces. Money seems to do that with most religions. My mistake the Watchtower is not a religion. It's an originization.

Prince is the funkiest JW I know, and the sexiest 1 as well; I hope he continues to grow on his current path...

Hold the fuckin' bus. Witnesses have to give 10% of their earnings?

No we don't. Anything financial is given on a donation basis. Not 10%. I like Jay Kay's weedy little voice.

I'm just gonna say I co-sign with robinhood.

That sounds like what Christians say. We are not required to give 10%. We choose to donate 10%.

Hmm, that is an interesting question. I'd have to say, from what I know of JW, they just may be sensoring him!! I know if you do too much, you can get kicked out. And Prince seems to be alot tamer than he used to be, which is blatanly obvious. It seems he wants to stay in the JW, so he isn't nearly giving us that sex appeal like he used to so openly. Not that he needs too, his newfound spirituality and faith is GOD is quite sexy itself. But yeah, I think they say something to him about it. I know my pastor has/would say something to me (or get one of the ladies to say something) if I were to be racy in what I did!Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I do feel that since he has become a Jehovah's witness that his music has not been that what it once was....but I still think he is a musical genius. *missing his old style*

Well technically they don't have to. But the Elders will lay on the need is great so be sure to leave your payment (donation) in the box at the end of the meeting guilt trip. Cause you don't want the Elders approaching you saying Brother BigAudio i have noticed you have not been leaving a donation lately talk

It's never a guilt trip. I never said that I CHOOSE to give 10%. I give what I want. It felt like a guilt trip when I was apart of a baptist church for years, I put money in the collection basket and they hear change clinking or give dollar bills in "small" increments you get looked at funny, and then mistreated. Then they (church) had the nerve to ask me for my W-2s to see how much I make and GET 10% from me, I left . They never answered my questions to my satifaction and they seemed hypocritical so I left. I like Jay Kay's weedy little voice.

@Squirrelgrease The majority of Christian Churches require tithing. (10% of earnings to go towards the Church). Jehovah's Witnesses are funded voluntarily. (That's also @BigAudio).
@BigAudio Correct. 'The Watchtower' is a publication. It's also the shortened name of the Publishing company set up by Jehovah's Witnesses to publish 'The Watchtower' and other forms of literature. So yes the Watchtower can't be counted as a religion, it's a legal/publishing term. The religion is 'Jehovah's Witness, categorised under Christian.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Jehovah's Witness Elders wouldn't be allowed to do that. It would remove the anonymity from the donations. Donations are placed in a small box at the back of their Kingdom Hall.
You mention tithing (10% of earnings to Church), then state that it's not a technical requirement. Maybe you are confusing Jehovah's Witnesses with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) who do tithe (require 10% of earnings). However as they view it as a matter of conscience, tax receipts wouldn't be inspected to make sure you are tithing, one technically doesn't have to give 10% of their earnings to the Church. However Mormons view tithing as an important Religious activity and would be unlikely to be dishonest regarding such matters.
