I agree this is a great collection of music. I think this could make him new fans. It sounds fresh. The songs are fun to listen to and yet theres a complexity there that Prince is a master of. Theres a variety of sounds that seem to go back through his entire career. Gorgeus melodies and FUNK! Walk in Sand sounds like For You era Prince. Then you have Sticky Like Glue that sounds like eighties Prince. Lay It Down seems like Prince challenging the younger generation of musicians. Lotus Flower and now 2010. I am lovin this era of his career.

Great to see that there are also people like you on prince.org (I just didn't believe it anymore).

Too many guys are stuck in the past and don't give the latest works a close listen.

It is sad that he is not releasing in in the USA. I mean there are only 3 more months in the year 2010 and I doubt that he will release it in 2011. I just have a copy of somebody elses. I almost got my own original but it ended up being a dead end. sad

I presume he won't release it in the US because he knows most probably have a copy of it from somewhere by now. I'm interested in this new project mentioned in the German magazine article.

I still listen to 20Ten, it's a great cd. Whether it opens doors or not, I'm not so sure, but the lyrics are definitely thought provoking.

I just don't understand why he's publishing his latest albums LOtUSFLOW3R (only in the U.S.) and 20Ten (only Europe) in this way. I was lucky to have a friend in the U.S. last year who bought me a copy at Target and sent it to me immediately, but sometimes it seems to be really difficult to get his latest releases.

I don't know how often I listened to 20Ten until now, but it's still one of my most played albums on my iPod today, and I just love the lyrics as much as the music. It's great to hear that I'm not the only one.

20ten has interesting moments, with a sound close to 1999, but for the first time in my life i am deeply ennoyed with the badly arranged choruses. Plus, i am really annoyed by most of the lyrics. I really don't care about his spiritual quest. This subject never made good songs.

I may not know anything about the "purple blinker" thing, but I'm not shy to mention Everybody Loves Me also. I think it's a song that should be listened to in the context of the whole album, and in its place it's a perfect little thing with an intriguing end.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful post....I feel the exact same way, I couldn't have said it any better! 20Ten makes me feel alive, then it relaxes me and makes me remember why I LOVE Prince soooo much. He never ceases to amaze me and he always, always makes me feel his music and the message he is trying to convey with it. From beginning to end, 20Ten delivers pure genius work and I absolutely LOVE the cd!! I am truly blessed to know the wonders of this man and can't wait for the next ablum as I know it will be another masterpiece and will add to my already large collection of great songs by the greatest musician the world may ever know! biggrin

I'm not so much into superlatives, but I also think there are not many musicians who can compete with him.

I would be most interested in who you think can compete with this genius!! Someone else that flips through genres as well as he does, brings the funk like he does, touches your heart and soul with his ballads and falsettos like he does, puts out 30+ ablums each with at least 3 gems on them, who can play the hell out of the guitar, piano, and some 10+ more instruments, and who puts on such an amazing and invigorating live show like he does. Not to mention his excellent personal style and confidence exuded on stage. Yes, please enlighten me on who can compete with this once-in-a-lifetime type of musical genius?

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I second that!! I am really loving this era of music Prince is putting out. I also really liked 3121 and Planet Earth...so right now, we're on a roll!! I am anxiously awaiting the next one as I haven't been disappointed as of late. The single disc of Lotusflower was great, now 20Ten, I'm on cloud 9...biggrin

Personally it closes doors for me. This Prince at his worst- robbing his past and going through the motions. Boring.

Ever since giving us arguably his last masterstroke with The Gold Exp. he at least has ATTEMPTED to be on par with his best work. CD's like 3121 had Black Swaet, Fury and the title track to anchor it.

20ten has not ONE solid song -with Act Of God being the only listenable heyday B-Side quality tune.

Come on...I know we are all fans however 20ten sucks. Maybe the next will be better.

If we're discussing music and musicians of 'our time' I'd say Prince is the best at what he does. I do like Stevie Wonder and have been 'taught' by my contemporaries and older generation that he was the musical genius of their time and I agree with them but, when I think of my time and P's not that much older then me, I'd say he's a musical genius with not many who can match him.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Sorry for my last post, 'cause it was meant to offend you. I apologize.

There's a good point at he beginning in the word "personally". I think it's all personal when it comes to music or any other art; there's no chance to be objective. And what's a masterstroke? Nobody knows, 'cause every one is touched in a different way. For me there lies the real magic of a record like 20Ten: It provokes so many different reactions that it's difficult to keep up with all of them.

Thanks for a great post. Pay no mind to those who are only here to criticize. They just don't get it and shouldn't be here... especially those who think they are Gods of Pure Funk. Others are here all day with nothing particularly interesting to say.. just bitchin' and whining. Glad to see folks like you here. smile

"I had a dream last night that I was flying 4 the first time, and in the dream I could pilote my flight with the thoughts in my mind..."

Listening to 20Ten is like listening to Prince for the very first time, and from beginning to end this album is full of surprises.

This is crystalline, pure funk, beautiful beats and melodies full of inspiration and joy, and selling this masterstroke with european newspapers and magazines this summer looks like the best move Prince could make: He's been paid in advance, and his music reaches more people than ever - as long as such a tool like the internet exists.

Everyone who listened close enough got an announcement of 20Ten on the internet-only single Cause And Effect running on radio station '89.3 the current' a few weeks ago, but nobody expected it to be a stunning work like this, all about the everlasting present: "I am here - where are U?"

Yeah, there's a way to get your Purple Rain in the concerts, but this vital artist has got much more to offer: Just lay down and listen to Beginning Endlessly, Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue, Lavaux, Walk In Sand and the hidden track describing your action, 'cause Laydown is the tune that makes all Timbalands of this world blush:

"U need 2 lay down and let me show U how we do this thing up in funkytown. From the heart of Minnesota here come the purple Yoda, guaranteed 2 bring the dirty new sound."

Nearly six weeks in my iTunes now I gave Beginning Endlessly most of the spins, followed by Future Soul Song, Walk In Sand, Laydown, Compassion and Act Of God, and it doesn't surprise me, it feels natural.

And this is it: Music's all about feeling, and feelings are opening doors. 20Ten can open many of them.

I'm another who struggles with a block of text, so I hope you don't mind me doing some reformatting in case it helps anyone else.

I definitely agree that music is about feeling and I guess it's because of the complexity of human feeling (and the enormous spectrum of human emotions that can be touched by Prince's entire body of work) that opinions on an album like 20ten, even within Prince's own fan community, are so diverse.

Personally, I really like the album. Admittedly I haven't given it a spin for a while, but that might be from playing it a bit too much when it first arrived.

My immediate favourites from the album were Compassion and Everybody Loves Me (yes, really folks). Lately I enjoy it when Act of God, Lavaux or Sticky Like Glue comes up on shuffle, but it's Laydown that's made it to my latest playlist.

Regarding the atmosphere here at the org, I've discovered that, like so many other things in life, it is what you make of it.

If you pay close enough attention you find out this place's dirty little secret - that even the so-called 'haters' have a lot of positive and constructive things to say.

I like Everybody Loves me, the more I listen to 2010. I hear signature Prince, the eteranl optimist. Somehow he finds a way to rise above all that gets in the way and still makes happy, carefree, party music.

Lately I find myself visualizing the end of 2010 in this way:

It feels like a shoreline when Prince starts singing Walking in Sand, calm and refreshing,

The water starts moving out to sea, with Sea of Everything, into the deep torrent ocean,

Then like a cresting wave, Everybody Loves me, lifts the water and throws it back to shore.
