I totally agree with your Absolutely Disappointed List! I don't care for Housequake as much but just knew it would make the list? I Wanna Be Your Lover to me was the beginning and should have definately been on the list! Do Me Baby is in my top 3 best Prince songs, I am SHOCKED it isn't on there!! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Yes, the "Nothing Compares 2 U" Hits & B-Sides version was in the list of songs you could vote for, along with other songs in which the only official "Prince" versions are live versions - "Days Of Wild", "The Ride", the C-NOTE songs etc. As for where it placed, well, you'll just have to wait and see [Edited 9/17/10 21:48pm] Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

OK, the more I look at this list, the more disappointed I am in it! The broadcast was great and very funny, but the songs chosen were awful IMO. I don't think a good mix of fans voted and I think you should have only been able to vote for 1-3 maybe? Anyway here are my thoughts...
~She's Always in My Hair? R U serious? But NO Raspberry Beret? Ugh! An atrocity! ~Mountains, 4ever in my Life, and 17 Days? Never! OK songs, but the best from Prince? Not in a million years! ~ Erotic City and Anna Stesia...I'm iffy about those, not in my Top 30! But ok. ~And I like Sometimes it Snows in April and Joy in Repetition..but not enough for the the Top 20! ~I'm shocked 1999, Let's Go Crazy, Adore, and Little Red Corvette are so low, but glad they are on there! ~ So glad to see IIWYG @ #3!! Love that song. And glad to see The ? of U on the list! Love it too!!
OK, so what's missing for me is his great songs post 1990. Sorry there are many songs he put out after 1990 that were 10x better than Mountains, 4ever N my Life, and 17 days!
*Where is I Wanna Be Your Lover? A classic song of his that really was the BIG start for him in mainstream and the song to this day is awesome to listen too!! *Where is Raspberry Beret? The B side makes it, but it doesn't? That is just whack! *Where is TMBGITW? That was a HUGE hit and a lovely song! Brought Priince back! *Where is Do Me Baby? That song to me just defines Prince! It's such a wonderful song and I loved it the moment I heard it. It used to be my all time favorite until I hear Electric Intercourse! *Where the heck is Electric Intercourse? Best song by Prince hands down!! *Where is I Hate U? Head? Darling Nikki? Pink Cashmere? I Would Die 4 U? Cream? Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

A better list would have been...
1. Electric Intercourse 11. The Beautiful Ones 2. Do Me Baby 12. Baby Knows 3. Adore 13. Laydown 4. Purple Rain 14. I Would Die For You 5. Kiss 15. I Wanna Be Your Lover 6. If I Was Your GF 16. The Ladder 7. I Hate U 17. The Greatest Romance Ever Sold 8. The One 18. Head 9. Pink Cashmere 19. Crimson and Clover 10.When Doves Cry 20. Somebody's Somebody
Oh well, everybody's got different taste. It was fun to see what everyone else likes! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Having heard that, I'M ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY that that song didn't make the Top 20. Especially after he the One Nite Alone Tour where he finally gave us the definitive version of this song.
Easily one of his Top 5 love ballads and the fact that it made Sinead fucking O'Conner a HUGE STAR with it further laments this as a top 10, if not top 5, song!!!!

wow, The Question of You, Joy In Rep, Anna Stesia, Girlfriend, AND April in the bunch. i'm stoked. made me feel like my votes counted

How can you call those selections disappointments? There HITS for a reason.
She's Always in my Hair making it and Raspberry Beret not can't be an atrocity if many have called it one of his greatest tracks ever. Many have said Prince made poor slections when it came to choosing singles to release.

One thing to remember is that this particular vote was to vote for what you think is the best ever Prince track, which is a big difference to voting for your favourite track (but I am sure people did that too) but there is defintiely a difference between the two.
I really don't think IIWYGF is a great track at all - but I know many people think it is a masterpiece. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

RB is my all time fav, and i am a lil disappointed that it didnt make the list, but i am totally stoked that shes always in my hair made it...
Prince b-sides were more like alternate a sides abck in the day...it was an event getting a new p single to see what new gem he had unleashed on the world...
3 b-sides in a top 20 list, shows what depth he once had....
i miss the 80's seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

A few random thoughts:
I, for one, am absolutely thrilled to see Forever In My Life present. I think it’s a perfect song, and I’m happy to see so many people love it as much as I do.
If I recall correctly, the poll only allowed us to pick our favourite tracks. If it could have been done technically, I think it would have been beneficial to be able to assign rankings or weights. I think the best model is the village voice’s p&j poll; give each voter 100 points, and allow them to spread the points among any ten tracks. I don’t necessarily think the list would have been massively different, but it would have allowed people to weigh favourites more heavily, and possibly allowed a few outliers in.
I’m a little shocked & mildly disappointed that LRC wasn’t in the top five. I think it still stands as his most perfect song – his greatest pure pop moment, and one of his best, most fully realized lyrics.

Great to see a few B-sides sneaking in there.

Mountains wasn't even written by Prince. Even Crazy You is better than Mountains. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Anotherlover... is way better than Mountains.
The majority have spoken, and i'm not agreeing. [Edited 9/18/10 15:18pm]

Listen fuckers... you all had a fucking chance to fucking vote on this well-advertised motherfucking poll. If you don't fucking agree with the motherfucking results, then make another motherfucking poll.

ehhh....reading some of these comments....people do realise that a top 20 means only twenty songs can make it?....if you include the shoe-ins....purple rain ..when doves cry...1999....little red corvette and the rest....say ten songs that would always make it...it doesnt leave many spaces fro your favourites....the 80s b sides are always looked on with fondness from long time fans so they will always get voted high but that means that some songs dont make it....you end up getting she's always in my hair getting in but its us a-side raspberry beret doesnt make it.....?.....at the end of the day.....20 songs just isnt enough to show prince's greatest work....it needs at least a top 40 to show his best and and you would still lose some belters.....for me ...the list is about what i expected....forever in my life is not a top 20 song for me...good as it is...sign o the times is a bit high ...great song but not a top 5 for me.....controversy ....think there are better prince funk songs than that one....but apart from that ...as expected ...

Just had chance to finally listen to the show, there were a few surprises, a few not-so-suprising choices (but they HAD to be in there!).... It was a pretty good list.
Some b-sides (deserved), I was (pleaantly) surprised by Mountains. I was expecting When U Were Mine and maybe Let's Work (thought it was coming once or twice from the clues).
I was kinda glad that post-80s stuff like Cream, MBGITW, Black Sweat weren't in there, in a lot of ways it was kind of a classic list - like you guys said, a lot of crossover with the Controversy Magazine questionaire (Beautiful Ones, Sometimes It Snows, She's Always In My Hair) - these classic NON-SINGLE tracks, that's always good to see IMO. Good show.

Daphne, did you vote?
I didn't vote so I'm not gonna say where is this and where is that. I was pleased that a few of my favorites are on the list and the top 2 I wasn't surprised about. No matter your age, pursue your dreams so that you will LIVE.

That was a great show you guys. I was trying to figure out the clues and I think I got one of them. I think it was.....well, heck. I can't even remember which one now. LoL Anyway, it was fun to listen to and the list was great. There were a few surprises for me that were kinda choices. There were a few surprises that were, to me, namely Joy in Repetition and The Question of You. I was not at all surprised at the choices for the number 2 and number 1 spots.
p.s. It cracked me up whenever one of the guys would say "shoosh" for Shhh. No matter your age, pursue your dreams so that you will LIVE.

Man listening to Future Soul Song i thought, damn it would be cool if you guys did a TOP 20 Ballads AKA "Slow Jams" the list would be amazing. His very first album started a tradition that pretty much defines his work, from "Baby" to "FSS" I'm sure Prince's 20 Slow Jams have been responsible for at least a million kids lol. I know my 22 yr. old is a Prince baby lol.
