The "Video" for "Paisley Park"

A bunch of people running around a park, none of their actions matching the lyrics...well, there was a girl on a seesaw, but basically I thought it was an absolute mess. A poor man's attempt at a "Penny Lane" video.

Please tell me that thing aint official!

Yes it's official.

Remember the single wasn't released in the US, so the video was probably done quickly on the cheap (evidently!) for the European market (not sure I've ever read where the video was shot, but it looks like the UK?)

TBH, I've always felt it had a certain 'rustic charm'. They played it long into the mid-90s on MTV and VH-1 in the UK, you know before these channels became total mush.

biggrin The video you mention is the official and ONLY video for Paisley Park I know! Paisley Park reached number 18 in the uk although maybe due to non-release in the united states was not featured on the hits, hits2 / b-sides in 1993 or on any subsequent prince/ O+> greatest hits compilations! which I always wondered about as it is one of my favorite prince songs cool The video is very much embracing the song and the lyrics as it shows a park where the participants grow up during it's length........possibly one of the more beatles inspired songs/videos and very much similar to lenny kravitz's let love rule video for example! biggrin Around the world in a day is a landmark album for prince and he embraced a new direction after purple rain and what was to be with following work such as parade/sott and lovesexy his stamp of innovation on music of the time and the 1980's in general! smile

I absolutely LOVE the lead single song Paisley Park, very underrated.

I never understood the poor crappy music video though.

Maybe Prince wanted to release this to avoid overburning / backlash after the incredible Purple Rain exposure..

Still whatever the reason is the Paisley Park music video is a shame.

Btw a shame there's no video to Pop Life as well.

imo. wink

If you find the DVD bootleg called PTV Volume 1, it has both versions of the video on there. In fact, the people who put this together also put them side by side and you can watch them together, to see the differences in them. They also did the same for both versions of "I Wish U Heaven". It's a great DVD set.

Loved it when it did the "rocked" out version of this during some of the ONA soundchecks.

If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.

confused Maybe Prince decided to take a step back as the single was only released in the uk and put together for that market but I think it is quite cool and embraces what the song is meant to encapsulate! The effect the Sott video has endorses the music really and perhaps after Purple Rain this was Prince's intention for Paisley Park as well? Perhaps that is the beauty of the Around the world in a day album as apart from a glorious technicolour debut with Raspberry Beret there is of course no video to pop life (although later ona live dvd version seals the deal!) and how would you recreate the crowd bit at the end which was the sound recorded when Prince supported the rolling stones and met an indifferent reaction! cool
