VH1 P control performance 1995 - CRINGE Just viewed that performance for the very first time!
CRINGEWORTHY!
First of all, what's up with the lipsync? And Mayte generally can dance, but obviously not in high heels! and the guy with the synthesiser (is that Levi?) - what's he wearing and is that lipstick?
Absolutely one of these "what was he thinking" moments!

Levi? With a synth?
I think you mean Tommy B as Levi was not with the NPG for years by that point, lol.

I'll take your word for it .. i don't know the names of any of the NPG members (of any given period in time). But I guess you know who I mean ...

The white guy with long brown touseled hair, wielding a synth called the Purpleaxxe? Yeah that's him.
Levi Seacer Jr left the band after the Act II tour ended in Sept 1993. That and he was black. lol.

serious FAIL after the nuclear meltdown (in a good way) that was the Enforphinemachine/Interactive performance at the VH1 honors. [Edited 9/3/10 15:56pm]

He lip-synched on TV alot back then. Emancipation at The Brits and TMBGITW at the World Music Awards spring to mind. I wonder why that was.

Yeah I like this per4mance even if it is lipsync. I think prince was more into choregraphy and dance move rather than real pure live energy. I really dig the little cat legs move he is doing, looks like reggea dance.
You can not alway have dance, choregraphy, live band and live singing. When you go to an opera or classical concet, you go there for the music. If you go to a dance ballet, you are here for the dance....
If you take MJ case, he is doing half of his show lipsync... and so what ? We can not blam him for that? When he is not singing, he is dancing his body off.
my point of view. | |

Fair enough. But a one-off song on TV wouldn't be beyond anyone. Prince could have took his gloves off while playing guitar on that emancipation performance and switched his mike on.
It was just obvious and silly looking.

He was playing the fretless bass for real. You can barely hear it if i remember. Keeping the glove was cool ^^ For the lipsync, I do not know what to say, he did not had the time to reheasale.

You can't play any guitar properly with gloves on.
Vocally, Prince is Prince, he doesn't have to rehearse. Brother can sing. He chose to fake it.
Don't type anything else that's silly in response to me.

I didn't mind it, though I did laugh to myself after Prince talked about lip-synching on his Act II tour.
"Everybody else doin' it, I should be lip-synchin' up in here!...FUCK THAT SHIIIIT!" What it is?!?!

i remember seeing that on air, god i feel old
i never saw the big deal with mayte...she couldn't dance that well...

Mayte fit the bill. The music at the time was big on club-vibe and Mayte and Carmen Electra happen to be pretty good gogo girls and that's precisely the role they filled. Additionally, Mayte had the right 'look' for the eras in which she danced for Prince. In my opinion, she has always complimented him in ways Cat never could (mostly because Cat and Prince often competed on stage whereas Mayte was the gild on P's lily).

The big deal was he loved her.

I didn't think the pussy control vh1 performance was that bad, but the interactive/endorphinemachine set is amazing! One of my 90's favorites. "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham

I never really got the hype about her either...I wasn't impressed at all..I could have done without her prancing around all the time...she just annoyed me!! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

All the love in the world couldn't make her a good dancer, so she was just annoying and would have been better off out of the picture or shall I say off stage! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Everything 90's Prince is pretty cringeworthy. He single handedly permanently soiled his own star and genius status by his every move and 90's record release. We will soon learn exactly how MJ-like fucked up he was and on what. You dont go from his 80's work to the 90's depths while sober, exercising, eating healthy food and doing crossword puzzles. The little guy must have been so high and screwed up he NEEDED to go the "ended up in prison with the entire cell block's cum in my mouth and ass so I found Jesus" route. Hitting rock bottom is the best recipe for people to "find" god and become "devout" anything.

There are several GREAT albums by Prince from the 90s that contradict what you're saying.

nahhh the more outrageous the better when it comes to Prince. It's entertainment for F*cksakes!!

Gosh that's extreme. I don't really agree with you tho. I think that part of the problem with the 90's for Prince was not the age he was living in but the age of Prince himself. He was neither young enough to be perceived as the new kid on the block or old enough to be a statesmen getting respect. I think this is why he betrayed a lot of his sounds by artificially sticking in rap-it showed a lack of confidence on Prince's side. Whether you like his recent stuff or not it sits more comfortably with him.
I think pop stars in the 30's all suffer from this. Madonna was well on the wane before Evita. I'm no MAdonna fan but she was lost in the first half of the 90's as was MJ

Mayte's dancing seems alrite to me. she's a real KAPOW kind of dancer. this too shall pass

It is extra extreme isnt it. I got home late yesterday and it seemed funny. now it doesnt to much.

Maybe s few good songs sprinkled in between....The Truth, Come by overall it was a bad time for the man.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You kidding? Erotica and Bedtime Stories are her best albums to date.
IMO, Madonna fell from grace after releasing Ray of Light. The album itself was a nice departure from anything she had previously done, but it sent her down a path of mediocrity where she essentially turned out Euro-pop records with same-y production and woefully amateur lyrics.

yeah, that s because she is wearing gloves, she can not dance well if she is wearing gloves...or did missunderstood something ?
