I think I've told this story before, but my wife was asked to come up to dance with him on stage at the 2000 celebration Northrup concert. She slipped a little crossing the barrier ("Nerves!" she told me later). Prince saw her stumble, so he came halfway down the steps and held out his hand to help her up. He asked, "Are you alright?" She said, "Yes," he gave her a quick little half hug, smiled, and walked away to jam on his guitar. She passed away this past December...so this is a nice memory to think about. I know it was a highlight for her too.

Beyond that, we were pretty hardcore in the mid to late nineties, and had a few chances to trade "hellos" and that sort of thing. It got to the point where he at least recognized our faces and would point us out in a crowd at afterparties and stuff, culminating in the show at Northrup. Those were the days...

Yes, last year Paisley Park before the show...he smells really good too ! the other time was in Vegas. There have been other countless times where he was right across--either standing or sitting by me or us depending on the show.

He smells of lavender. Two "myths" that are true is that:

1. He smells really nice.

2. He is truly tiny.

When I first met him, I was at the SOTT 87 show in Utrect. I couldn't afford a ticket for the second night so I decided to just hang out (I had come from the UK) at the venue. P bolted from the shows while the lights were still down, so I was waiting at the back gate in the pouring rain. The dude felt pity and had the car pull over and give me a lift into the town centre.

I met him again for a long chat backstage it Lovesexy London in 88 thanks to a friend (you know who you are wink).

Again in 88 I met him when he signed my Lovesexy album. The rest of the times have been a sort of "Hello, how are you" pass by's in 1990, 1995 (In Dublin), 1999 (in Newcastle)

I don't understand why so many people hear seem starstruck. He's just a little wierd guy.

Personally, I think its better not to meet him and have a proper chat. Most people only come away deflated, as it can never live up to their expectation. Plus he can be a real jerk sometimes.

It was a meeting backstage during his 2003 Tour (just prior to him releasing Musicology) in Sydney, Australia. Prince was very polite and nice, shook my hand and took a seat. We talked about a lot of issues in music (american idol, record labels) creativity, and how he approached putting together a show. He was down to earth, looked you in the eyes when he spoke to you and had a great sense of humour.

I told him how the first 7" I ever bought as a kid was Sexuality (I was 7 at the time) and he laughed. He seemed humbled when I thanked him for his music and how it was always there for me in the highs and lows of my life, and told him how Sometimes It Snows In April helped me get through a tough time when my best friend (also a Prince fan) past away. He laughed when I said I played The Most Beautiful Girl in the World at my wedding when my bride walked in, he double laughed when I said I could hardly play I Hate U now could I. He didn't want to talk too much about music / or some of the decisions he had made in the past and I recall asking him about his pseudonyms and him just looking at me with a smirk to which I just said "Past?" and he laughed nodding.

Overall he was very cool to chat with, made you feel instantly at ease. Was open to talking about music, influences, creativity, the whole recording process and his views on the recording industry.

It was a highpoint to spend an hour chatting with him, and later that night on stage (this was all part of the On Stage Xperience) I had two more amazing moments. One - during the piano encore he played Sometimes It Snows in April (something he hadn't done on this leg of the tour) and the other was during the final few encore songs / jam he lead me over to Larry Graham (doing a cameo on bass in the final set) and told me "When Larry turns round we're gonna pretend we got hit by a truck". Sure enough, when Larry turns to us, Prince and I shuffle back a few steps in shock. Prince turned to me with a big smile and said "too cool, too cool", then made me stand next to him front of stage for the next 2 songs - wild.

I have posted my meeting Prince on the org be4 but its been a few years. My experience was June 21,2001 right after the Celebration that year and he was beginning the very short lived Celebration tour. I was in Columbus,OH and after the show we went to a club and hung out for the afterparty. He did show up but didnt play. It was about 3 am and the club was closing and it was raining outside when my friend and I decided to go ahead and leave. We walked outside towards out car and sure enough there was limo parked out back and there was like 6 girls standing out there because they were too young to get into the club. My friend says watch we will hang out and I bet Prince will come out this back door and we can see him.....so about 15 mins later here comes the band and gets on this little bus then right after here comes Prince with his bodyguard. He says something to us about the rain and he hoped we enjoyed the show...my friend yells out to Prince...hey about a handshake....well I am thinking no way is he going to walk over to us he is just going to get in the limo and go....plus I was praying those younger girls didnt start screaming and acting all crazy. So Prince turns around walks back over to us shakes my friends hand then mine and right down the line to all six girls. everyone was cool and calm then my friend says to me in my ear tell Prince it was your birthday 2 days ago and you want a hug....well I am thinking like no way is he going to hug me....but next thing I know he is back standing right in front of me and I looked him in the eye and said.....Prince, my birthday was 2 days ago can I please have a hug?? Well, he just smiled at me and he said sure, leaned toward me and hugged me.....then he said....U know ur not supposed to celebrate birthdays u know?? LOL!! He left soon after and we stood there with those girls for at least 30 mins not believing what had just happened but it did....I will never forget it as long as I live....how he looked, his smile, and omg how good he smelled....and yes he really smells like lavendar!! Single greatest birthday present ever!!

lots of people must have talked to him during the Australian leg of the ONA tour as you could pay for a "meet and greet" package if you were ready to put down a thousand dollars if I remember correctly...

unfortunately nobody ever talked about it afterwards as they was a confidentiality clause I believe...

Prince is high on my list of artists I love, but who i'd really, truly, prefer to not ever meet.

Woody Allen, Bob Dylan, Philip Roth, Paul Simon, Madonna, Prince -

Brilliant, fun, and I'll follow them forever, but I don't get the impression they're the nicest, warmest, most down to earth people. Which is fine.

Like when you go to a zoo and see a beautiful tiger, but you don't run up to it and throw your arms around it. I just smile and think, 'cool'.

All these years, I have been thinking the same about Prince ... that he is brilliant, a genius, best artist out there, and so on, but I never had the impression that he was very nice to his fans. Some of what I have read in this thread does definitely say something different, though. Especially the hug for the birthday girl! biggrin I would have never thought he'd do that!! It seems that when he interacts with fans he IS nice, also with handshakes and all. I guess those moments are rare, but still ... I am wonderfully surprised. It's like I'm hearing about a side of Prince that I never knew before - because it always seemed to me that he just does not talk to fans. Period. Thanks to all of you who have shared stories that prove I was wrong. biggrin

I remember after an Indigo show in 2007. I was among the last to leave, you walk out the club, go left and then leave the O2. I sensed a bouncer was a bit nervous on my right, so went that way. There was Prince talking to a woman in a wheel chair, asking if she enjoyed the show & if she could she see the stage. I didn't try to but in with a 'C'mon Prince give us a smile eh'

2002 was good too: went on stage, first aftershow, shook his hand, patted him on the back when he came into the audience. I think he's nice to his fams, but probably avoids being mobbed.

Wow... ummm let's say I 've had my xperience w/ him:)

First time was @ the park 2000, got an after party pass from his BG Trevor to go back to the park. Prince walked up I said hello, he said hello, shock hands and parted ways. However, he got about 8 ft away stopped turned around and stared @ me enough for my friend to say ...He is staring at you. Kind of messed w/ me for a while.

2nd... Was chilling outside of PP and Mr Hayes comes and chats ask if I needed anything and did I have a good time. I siad yes of course joked about the Rainbow and asked if P had a batmobile phone to call up that Rainbow...also asked for a bed and a pizza. Mind you it was 5 am.

Couple Months later P was in my state for a concert....worse seats in the world I might add... 1/2 way through the set P quiets the band to talk to the crowd and low a behold he says something about this girl and how "too bad she only wanted a pizza"cool

Several months later of course I go back to the Park. Just for me to be starred at every turn... One nite at one of the concerts I was jamming and some one smacked me on the arm from the side ...when I looked up it was P and Trevor making their way through the crowd. A couple of days later Trevoe would approach me about a place for and Afterparty and asked if I knew of some places. I made a couple of calls and gave him 3 venues. Later that day one was picked. Ironically a place I didn;'t know had P history; a friend of Big Chicks and the owner had just got done painting the place with 72 gallons of purple paint. So here I am back home for the concert ...2nd row middle seats. John Blackwell came and chatted for a minute and took a special request which I got later in the show (playing w/ lited sticks) wink . I was called up to dance with the opening act (FBH) which was a blast. P stood in front of me and played his guitar and starred, with my GF once more knudging about he is looking at you...got called on stage once again just for him to get right in front me ...wished I would have pinched his butt...lol.

Then the afterparty:) a picture was taken of me and him even tho' there were signs up staing no video or cameras allowed. P told Trevor to get the film which he did and handed it to Prince... however he told Trevor to give it to me;-) Since the film was exposed ...tossed into trash and kept walking. Later that evening Pizza was ordered and P and Najee were chatting at the private bar within the venue... Low and behold P looks at me and says, "You want a piece of Pizza?" eek

To this day my favorite songs are : Dorothy Parker, from the ONA live album and 77 beverly park. I think you know why.wink The connection I had will P was one of innocence and love divine. Love without the sex and million dollar cars. Coomunication on a whole nother level. Momments in my life I never forget he is mac and a sweetie and I...well I guess I was once his muse. Thanks P!
