Prince could also have simply been saying the man was wise to come up with such a conclusion. He didn't have to mean the man was right. He could simply have been being nice, as he may not have known what else to say to something like that. He may have been thinking "Who the F is this person he's talking about?" But as not to sound stupid, and avoid anymore conversation of how he really got the inspiration, he ended it with a vague response. Prince is a genius!

i can take it or leave it when he avoids answering questions

he could have easily as said he had no idea who herculine was but he wished he'd thought of it first or something like that

i used to think prince was way clever when i was much younger, but these days i prefer straight shooters
