yeah, I'm not too big a fan of that cover either.

That is one of my favorite songs EVAR and love Bonnie's version. I was SO excited when I saw it on the tracklist, it was going to be the perfect union. I love his take on it, except for the additional verse which is HORRIBLE. That song is not supposed to be sexual in any way.
I haven't listened to Winding Road in a long time, but don't remember thinking it was bad, just kind of 'meh'.

Larry murders it not Prince. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I've been a huge fan of Sheryl Crow's since I was a wee kid and she first came out with Tuesday Night Music Club.
Needless to say, I thought Rave was going to be THE SHIT because she guested on "Baby Knows" and he did "Everyday...". Boy was I motherfucking left hanging.
"Everyday Is A Winding Road" is, by far, the utmost pinnacle of bullshit Prince has ever fed to his fans. Holding up the steeples of such an exalted church are "Jughead", "Wedding Feast", and "Dead On It" (for me). I can't fucking stand what he did to it, at all, ever. It's NOT a gospel disco soul song. And I hate when Prince alters lyrics of cover versions. It's not your song, motherfucker, so stop fucking with it. Don't change the perspective. Either dig the groove and respect it or get your retarded hands off it and make Purple Rain 2.

Nice way of putting it!
I just listened to them backed to back and it is hilarious. Prince's version sucks balls. I have written with the co-writer of this track (Jeff Trott) and he said it was supposed to be a b-side but the label loved it and they kept adding bits over 3 months. The original : Classic Prince Version: by far, the utmost pinnacle of bullshit Prince has ever fed to his fans "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

I'll take Prince's version every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I was just thinking about his version of the song the other day. My initial reaction is that he butchered it, but he did what he usually does to cover songs - he "Prince-ified it" - made it his own. Good or bad, no one could cover Prince's version of the song!

I don't see the point of doing a cover if you are not going to change it My Legacy

I think that's the bigger problem with it. He not only butchered it, he didn't even make it his own. It just sounds like some bland, generic half-assed funk with some Larry Graham bullshit at it.
It doesn't even sound like Prince to me.

I love Sheryl Crow's original, an amazing pop song.
You are right about Prince murdering it. Terrible result. Prince 4Ever.

I always got the feeling from this song that it was inspired by bad moments in his life. The whole Rave album is depressing, actually. But maybe this song doesn't work for some because it is a guy who is not sure of what he is doing and presenting a song that almost sounds fun, but really is desperate.
If you don't like it because larry says "god" then that's a different story. My Legacy

I LOVE Prince's version, while the original doesn't do nothing to me. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I don't like the song....no matter who sings it.

That's not even the worst of his lyric changes in this song. That one kind of makes sense, as he's changing the gender of the person he's signing about.
He changes "He was high on intellectualism" into "She wanted 2 know if I could tell the future"
and "I've been living on coffee and nicotine" into "I've been livin' on compliments and herbal tea"
and my least favourite change "I'm just wondering why I feel so all alone, Why I'm a stranger in my own life" into "I was just wonderin' why people feel so all alone, Feeling like a stranger in their own life. [Edited 9/2/10 14:28pm]

I liked both versions and honestly didn't notice the line "crazy horse showgirl" was changed. Dadgum pop-up video distracted me, I guess. I dunno....I just have a lot of happy memories dancing to Prince's version with a very young cousin of mine. So I'll always have a mushy, special place for that song...
