Prince MURDERED Everyday is a winding road!

Always loved the song since I first heard it. So anyway I just heard the original for the first time in ages and it got me thinking what Prince did to this song is pretty embarassing. I mean he REALLY Ruined it... Why Oh Why??/? I'm glad he's not doing covers right now, Crimson & Clover is an exception to the rule.

What? "Crimson and Clover" is an exception to the rule? How?

He didn't ruin it. The original is still there and you can listen to it anytime you want. His interpretation of it doesn't change the original in any way.

And I like his version of it (except for the stupid and unnecessary "Crazy Horse showgirl" change). It's one of my favorites on that horrible album, to be honest. (I realize I'm in the distinct minority here and that many rank it up with Jughead as one of his worst. Oh, well.)

He did his own thing and the sound was cool I thought.

I know what you are saying, both versions are there but listening to it I can't understand why he thought it would need a new version. I personally love Jughead headbang headbang

One of the low points in princes career . No doubt about that . . But the original was a poor song to begin with imo . . . The worst song on one of his worst albums . . He is only human despite all his brilliance . . . Yes a low moment indeed . I can barely listen to it and i have only a handful of times in over ten years

I prefer his version over the original. His is a little more "rock and roll" compared to her "easy listening" version, IMO.

yes he messed up "one of us" too.

I can't think of a cover he's done well. Oh, apart from "Betcha by golly wow"

I don't mind him trying though.

it's a grower. as a fan of the orignally, i loathes it for ages. but it builds momentum towards the end, and then larry speak. but it is all good after that

Murdered Everyday Is A Winding Road, La La La Means I Love You and Betcha By Golly Wow (although, I never was a fan of the original either).

Home runs with I Can't Make You Love Me, One Of Us, and Crimson & Clover.

And these are only the released ones . . . plenty of good ones unreleased or live.

Agreed, it's pretty funky after what he said!

I'm a big Sheryl Crow fan, and really hated the lyric changes, but grew to love this version.

The same can't be said for the cover of 'Still the one' by Shania Twain, which is pretty much unlistenable. disbelief

This is my least favorite Prince cover. It gets skipped everytime.

The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

The NME review at the time described Prince's version as "dogshit to diamond alchemy". lol

i disagree that prince doesnt cover songs well as a rule.....i love his version of betcha by golly wow ...i know it gets a lot of stick on here but and give it another spin and listen to his vocal on it....it is wonderful....and a great melody....crimson and clover....another brilliant cover version and he totally makes it his own...there are others that he has done well and then you have his live covers.....i mean ....come on.....almost everything he covers live ...he improves in some way....look what he did to the beatles classic...while my guitar gently weeps at the hall of fame induction.....i cant listen to that song now without wanting to hear prince's guitar solo....as i said...he is human and releases some shockers but 90 per cent of his stuff is amazing imo....cheers.. wink

My only problem is that it sounds a little too compressed. When the band comes in for the first chorus, the song should get louder (IMO) but it only gets busier.

Still I think it's okay

I generally enjoy, to some extent, most of the covers he released (Crimson & Clover and One Of Us especially; Betcha By Golly Wow and La La La Means I Love U are alright for what they are).

But yeah, Everyday Is A Winding Road is straight up shit. But I'm not a huge fan of the original, so it doesn't really phase me aside from being the absolute low point on an already bad album.

I Can't Make U Love Me, on the other hand.... what a fucking disgrace disbelief

BIG Disagree, but hey one man's steaming pile of feces is another man's Wedding Feast...true story. (Translation I like it very much). Have never heard Winding Road though so that makes me lucky yes?

I like it-it has a tumbling mess of a sound. Weirdly before he did this it was also the only SCrowe song I liked.

I like the original a lot. Prince's version, IMHO, is just meh: Not bad enough to hid "next" but not good enough to dig out the CD to hear it.

I did get a smile when I heard his changed up lyrics, because YOU KNOW if someone were to re-do one of his songs with that many lyric changes, he'd hit the roof!

When I first played Rave, I loved it (esp the first half of the album) but this song right here was my FAVORITE. I love the interpretation of the song, takes it to a completely different place. The REAL clunkers on Rave? The Sun, Moon and Stars takes the cake, followed by Silly Game.

That's what I keep meaning to do, I love this track until Larry starts. It's not that I have anything against the man, just don't like his input to this track.

When I very first heard this track I didn't like it as I was expecting a guitar driven cover, but by the end of the song I was loving it.

RIP sad
