2000-2010 = Prince at his Finest Hi loyal fans
I have come to the conclusion that the era of 2000-2010 is definately Prince at his finest, truely surpassing all other eras and decades in which his music has creatively exploded upon the music scene. Why do I feel this way? I will happily expound here:
1. Prince, the man himself, has aged gracefully and wonderfully. He doesn't look a day over 30, IMHO. Being that he eats a vegan diet and exercises regularly, he has managed to keep his physique looking top notch. Anyone in the public eye knows that even though outward beauty isn't everything, you do need it to a certain extent to keep the public satisfied. And Prince, by taking good care of himself, has proven that being older doesnt mean you have to let yourself go.
2. From Musicology all the way up to 20Ten, Prince has shown a great maturity, not only lyrically, but musically as well. The innovative beats are more restrictive with a contemporary feel, which for me greatly enhances the listening experience. I like the much softer, toned down Prince. I have trouble sharing some of his older creations with my own kids due to the adult language, but have no worries playing for them the more conservative music in which he writes now. "Dirty Mind", IMHO, has now been converted to "Clean Mind," in respect to his lyrics, attitude, and overall persona. This is one good aspect of Prince now that before sometimes, honestly, was a little hard to come by.
3. I also greatly respect Prince's choice to be kept somewhat hidden from the Public eye. I can remember back when I was in High school, everyone had a Purple Rain poster, a mag with his picture in it, or one of his proteges records (yes, I do mean records -Whew, I am getting older) Even the more conservative girls were always talking about Prince. Now a days, you would be lucky to see him on a VH1 old school memorabilia show. Why? Because Prince has been there, done that, and bought the purple T-shirt. He doesn't need to be in the public eye like he used to. He has enough fans, money, and stature to remain silent and hidden, and still have the personality, talent, and charisma to write and produce hip tunes, sell out shows, and pack arenas and venues all over the globe. His choice to not have a facebook page, IMHO, is a wise one.
4. And most of all, has put his past behind him and keep reaching toward the future. He has put his days of lusting after women behind him. I pray for him that he finds peace within his heart and finds the perfect wife given to him by God. God bless you Prince.
Love,
Butterscotch

I just read the first sentence and I couldn't go on.
Your musical taste is definitely horrible if you really think that.

I agree with almost everything you said except the 'excercise regularly', unless he's still b*ballin ...

I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE.

The last decade wasn't nearly as frustrating as the previous. But there was far less material released and what we did get was very uneven.

Butterscotch brings up a lot of good points. I personally wouldn't go so far as to say it's his best musically but I would definitely agree that many fans do not fully appreciate his work from this decade... He has released ALOT of great material and he seems to me (as an outside observer) as someone who really has his life together for the most part and while I definitely dig "Dirty Prince," I dig more the way he has evolved and tried to live his life on a more spiritual level. And he has really released some killer material this past decade... So much respect to Prince!

Prince was the mutha f'in man when he was younger. let me reiterate that for anyone who needs to feel better about the decline in his music by lying that it is not only great butr better than his shit from the 80's and even 90's.
Prince was the mutha f'in man in the 80's. he was the man! plain and simle. you may want to like his new stuff to continue to feel good about him, but the shit he did when he was yonger was sheer f'ing genius. I repeat. genius!
to claim his music this decade bests his classic stuff is outright ludicrous and diminishes how great he was.
it's okay, we can accept he is a different person today and in turn puts out different music. we can even continue to like it. but there is no need to even attempt to have to overcompensate for our own personal need to keep Prince on a pedestal by diminishing his genius in the 80's.
this isn't even open to debate or opinion. we are all here today because of what Prince was in the 80's. why? because he couldn't be touched, and not many musicians have rivaled his genius in his hey day. this message brought to you by logic.

I have to agree pretty much with you OP!! I LOVE the current music. I listen to 3121, Lotusflower, Musicology, Planet Earth, and now 20Ten so much more than I do his 80s stuff. Purple Rain still gets alot of play, but the other cds fail in comparison to these new cds! People can say what they want, but the new music is genius material and his ablums are radio and kid friendly, which is so important too. es, I love the sexy, wild Prince. But I really appreciate the man he is today alot more..and I'm no new fan. I love his 80s music, love his 90s music, I just love his millenium music best. I like the r&b side of Prince, love the dance stuff, and it's still funky! Just different than what he used to play. I'm glad and welcome the change.
And the man looks fantastic! My goodness, he has aged well. He's more physically attractive to me now than he was in the 80s...and he was darn fine back then too! I am so glad he's settled down and now has gained respect as an artist, not just a great live performer. He really is a genius and can do any genre of music and succeed it int. I can't wait to see the next 10yrs because these last 10yrs have been great musically, not to mention his personal style is AMAZING these days! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Utter nonsense.
1. Prince, the man himself, has aged gracefully and wonderfully.
Irrelevant.
Nonsense. He's retreated into a run of the mill, bland soul/funk/rock melange, alternated with pathetic attempts at mimicking his 1980s electronic sound.
Pur-lease. Dude does far more interviews now than in the 1980s.
No, because he's IRRELEVANT.
His recent Euro tour was a massive flop: tickets at half price, concerts moved to smaller venues,... LF is now for sale at $.99 in stores.
Hilarious.
The average age of the songs played in his recent gigs is 20+/25+ years. Yeah, he really put his past behind him. How many songs from the past 10 years has he played live regularly?
Do you believe your own lies? How often has he been married in the past decade? How often divorced? © Bart Van Hemelen

Exactly. There's no doubt that Bart is a troll, but that doesn't mean he's not right (most of the time).

Co-Sign maybe not the best music but cetainly not bad compared to all the other crap. The most important thing is he appears to have his life together which is much more important than music.
He figured out how to age gracefully and if he is semi-retired more power to him.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How can you be right about anything if you constanly go on about the 1990s and are not really a fan. He is a troll and it would be great if some of you would stop giving him props.
