I've done 2 of them so far in my career and although I do appreciate our fanbase and am definitely infinitely grateful to even be successful enough to warrant doing them, there is nevertheless something disconcerting about them and I can understand why Prince does not do things like that.

You get fans who don't want to buy your product but ask you to sign the most random of items, which you have to decline because then more people try and do the same thing. You get fans who don't understand the concept of personal space and get a little bit too close for comfort. You get fans who think it's perfectly OK to try and have 10 minute conversations with you even when there's a long line of people waiting. You get the horny groupies showing up and trying to find out what hotel you're staying it. One one of those occasions, the groupies somehow already knew where we were staying, which is a little uncomfortable. People start asking you to perform on cue like some kind of dog. You get people that don't seem quite right in the head asking all sort of strange things.

You can have security to deal with all this kind of thing but then you just seem like an asshole.

Any of you guys hear about that incident last year where the singer Leona Lewis was doing a fan-signing event, either for her new album or book...... some deranged fan literally waited for an over an hour in the line, and when he got to the front, he punched her in the face. That's every artist's worst nightmare. And while it seems like those incidents are kinda isolated, the fact is....you never know what could happen.

Having said all that, we literally sometimes spend hours signing merchandise and taking photos with fans after performances and I've never had any issue with doing that. I have no idea what the difference is, but there is one. Perhaps the adrenaline rush of having just come off stage, or the barriers and level of security..... I don't know.

Prince looks REAL shy there. This was the first time he ever done something like this. Plus he came from humble beginnings so I imagine Chris had to constantly help in getting him prepared for signings.

I think if it came from Right On magazine or something, they'd probably had an interview with Prince that month (December) and just put that image in there.

i remember some girl went nutts and chased rapper TI down and 2 security guards had to hold her big ass down

and then she had the nerve to think she was awesome because she chase TI... like she was some brave pioneer

I was walking with someone, holding his hand, and a female fan grabbed my arm and yanked his hand free of mine, then proceeded to get in his face, flirting.

I was stunned that someone could be so bold just to meet someone famous.
