you mean this?
"And then here he comes with the essence of "pink cashmere", and securing his loved one in a coat made from it, and how he just can't wait to be with her again."
that makes sense, except for the "making you a coat of pink cashmere" part My Legacy

He says:
Girl, can U understand I never used 2 go dancin'?
so that is him speaking.
Are you saying the chorus changes the point of view and it is her speaking? "I'm making you a coat..." My Legacy

I never was a big fan of his ballads-when I was younger, but this one is one of my fav. When The Hits was released I listened 2 it a lot and it is much better than that other unreleased/new song on The Hits: Pope
I prefer these kind of ballads (Saviour, She gave her angels, I hate U) 2 the really slow ones (Adore, Insatiable,) [Edited 8/31/10 11:21am] Love4oneanother

All I'm saying is that when I listen 2 this song, it paints a picture........and the picture is what I'm describing. Others can see what ever they choose or read but the songs paints the picture 4 me.

fair enough, and for what it's worth, I think you're right about what the image means, I just am not sure the lyrics make literal sense. My Legacy

Read the lyrics again. She isn't the one making him a coat. He is making her the coat. It's pretty obvious and doesn't need to be blown out of proportion. It's not rocket science. Sometimes, Prince really speaks in literal terms. Crazy, I know.

your interpretation is the only one that makes sense

Eh...sorry to smash anyones illusions here, but Anna Fantastic confirmed in an email webchat a few years ago that the song is to be taken literally. Prince, according to her, designed a coat made from pink cashmere as a gift and it was made some Parisian designer. She said she still has it too. How this kind of trivia sticks when how many sugars my girlfriend takes in her tea doesn't is the only mystery here.

Amazing, Prince at his best!
I first heard this at Wembley at an Act II concert. It felt so familiar, like I'd heard it before - I've always wondered if it was ever bootlegged before this concert??

This actually makes the most sense to me. I got that from the lyrics also, considering Prince and what he sang about back then, this is quite possibly the explanation. He isn't saying "I'm making, like crafting, you a coat of pink cashmere." But he's saying "I'm making you into a coat of pink cashmere."Or it could just be referring to a simple concept...an actual pink cashmere coat. That would be characteristic of Prince too. Perhaps he got the inspiration of the title and line from the coat he bought for Anna, but it meant more than that. I guess it's open for interpretation!!Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Ahhhh Pink Cashmere truly one of the best songs ever written and one of my top ten favorite Prince songs. It's the kind of song that, when Prince is long gone, people will look back and realize what a treasure it is.
