So you're asking if "Partyman" was a single. Hmmm, there's this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partyman via Google.com by searching "Prince Partyman".
The video you're referring to is part of a documentary, and it's just as you see it: Him recording the bass part for "Partyman". Love that clip. Well he's certainly shown recording a (wonderful) part, but it didn't make the final cut. If you listen to the song, it's Prince mouthing the bass notes. Batman is an album made entirely of pre-recorded samples and in a sense is his most overtly hip-hop influenced work. The aesthetic and appliance, as opposed to the actual soundscape. It's cold, compressed to all hell, tightly focussed and misunderstood by many. A bit like Batman himself, you might say.

That is totally false. (Where did you get that idea?) Go listen to the bass again. It's there, and funky as hell. To say Prince made an album fully of samples is utterly ridiculous.

Partyman, Trust and Scandalous are the only ones that got serious attention in the film, and they fit the part of the movie in which they were placed, I thought. Electric chair and vicky waiting seemed to be background music that nobody except us Prince people heard or noticed. The album itself was a great Prince album, and the success of Batdance, I'm sure didn't hurt. Whether the film helped the song or the song helped the film, I dunno. Overall, I don't think a director like Tim Burton just throws his hands in the air and says, "Oh well, the studio wants Prince, I guess I'll have to put his songs in my movie. Darnit!"

And Vicki Waiting VERY briefly. =0P Brace yourself

"The Future" seemed to get even less play than "Electric Chair" or "Vicki Waiting".

lmao
Triflin', incorrect post.
The album is NOT MADE OF SAMPLES. The album does ~have samples~ in the songs, though!
Tell me what samples make up "Trust", "Lemon Crush", "Electric Chair", "The Future".... Wait. What the fuck samples make up the entire album. None. You're thinking "Batdance" and he sampled himself because "Batdance" is a remix of "200 Balloons".

1) I have not seen Batman in a LONG time. 2) I remember "Partyman", "Trust", and "Scandalous". 3) Where the fuck is "The Future" and "Vicki Waiting" anyway?

"The Future" is played in the opening street sequence with the lost family. You can hear it faintly in the background.
There's part of an extended version of "Vicki Waiting" in the mansion party scene (I think) where you also hear "Electric Chair".
I bought the movie on BluRay. It has all the Prince videos, although "Partyman" is the edit, not the full version. There's also a bonus disk in a sealed case on the back cover, under a pasted placard. I had no idea it was there, and thought I had been ripped off when I saw "2 disks" and only saw one inside. I didn't even feel the 2nd disk on the back of the case.

I think because Prince used sampling as a compositional tool throughout the entire album that many folks disregard the very traditional elements and style in which these songs were recorded. Arms Of Orion is a pretty straight forward studio track. Samples of the movie sounds and dialogue, plus sampling his own riffs and musical bits were relied on quite heavily, but there is the business-as-usual underlying composition beneath all that. He used the same template as Lovesexy's Dance On for most of the Batman LP. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Fuck'm. I like his movies but I don't have to share the same taste in music as him. I'd heard this before but whatever, it is what it is. Tim Burton makes the movies he likes & Prince makes music he likes, not everyone likes Prince & vice versa. I seriously doubt Jack Nickolson had anything to do with it but I do like the rumor. I like the soundtrack but it isn't his best work, same goes for the movie.

- That´s exactly what I said. I KNOW Partyman was a single (I said I have some Partyman mixes, but I didnt have THAT one with the funky slap bass). That´s why I asked if it was from a ultra-rare mix or something made only for the documentary. [Edited 9/5/10 16:42pm]

Gotcha. It's the album version. It's buried in the mix, but it's the same thing, to my ears. It stood out in the clip because of the nature of the clip, etc. "Partyman" is one of those songs w/ a great bass line that people forget about or never hear. Same goes for "Pop Life" and the ex. portion of "La la la, he he hee".

Gotta love Jack Nicholson for insisting Prince provide the songs for Batman! I only watch Batman so I can hear Prince's songs in it! "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Stop trying to bait me all the time. Go buy the DVD and see. It's obviously movie extras, shiz like that.

first of all, relax. second of all, re: "go and buy it" (much like your usual "go google") - don't forget this is a discussion site, and people might actually prefer to share information in this manner. it's not obvious what is contained on the bonus disc or I wouldn't have asked. Have you watched it? I do not have the blu ray version.

Regarding the PartyMan bass part played in the documentary - you'll find that section on the 12" version of the track.
