I think the lyrics is about love in general. I actually don't mean the chorus means anything less than what the guy or girl would think of that special someone, not something coming from Prince's life. |

He's addressing both audiences end of-it is that simple. What Prince may need to do-or should have done is say "people" etc. Comments on here about bisexuality or homosexuality are nonsense. I'm not saying Prince isn't-who the hell knows. However lyrically Prince would never write from that angle because it ain't his sell or his public persona-his legacy is dirty hetro sex and anything there on in would make him a hypocrite (please don't debate that now).
Prince has flirted with the androgynous / "am I straight or gay" thing since the beginning of time.
The line itself may not intentionally be a hint at bisexuality BUT the idea that Prince himself, and certainly a good portion of his audience as evidenced by this thread, would not see the possible sexual connotations of that phrase are absurd.
Prince could have written that line a dozen other ways but specifically chose one that sends a mixed message by its very nature. I believe the song is more about platonic love but Prince supplied fuel for alternative readings.
As to the "angle" Prince may write from - he has done so in any case, as previously mentioned in this thread. |

He's singing to a woman and then singing to a man-it is not a personal reference. Your quote from Controversy does not support you argument in the slightest-Prince is merely stating the external perception of him of which he is aware |

I never said it was. I have no idea WHAT you think you're responding to but it was nothing in my actual post. |
