VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time"

Based on a sneak peek in USA Today's Pop Candy column, Prince will be listed as #7 (Up from #18 when VH1 last compiled a list, back in '98)...

Figures. His pop cultural stock is way higher than it was back in 98.

Singing and dancing are both considered arts.

MJ was definitely an artist.

for that matter, why would a band not be considered an artist, for the purposes of these things?

that may be true, er, sort of, but you know they were all influenced by black music at some poinnt in their careers and it shows in their collective works...

hmmm so singing, dancing, and writing songs doesn't make someone an "artist"?

exactly, I'm not a big mj fan, but he certainly fits the definition of 'artist' in so many ways

MJ is a pop phenomenon like Elvis. And like Elvis, the fickle pop media will demote him back down to his rightful place, just as Prince is moving up towards his rightful place in pop music history.

Remember world famous instantly recognizable pop phenomenons like Fatty Arbuckle? I didn't think so.

MJ ahead of Elvis? Only the younger generation could take that seriously, this is VH1 after all. I like MJ fine, but to most MJ is the late model Dodge compared the a 57 Chevy.

well remember acclaimedmusic is compiled from thousands of 'best of' lists from around the world...its the best guide to the best music ever released imo....great for discovering albums and artists you might not have heard much of...public enemy seem to be quite high on the list mainly due to there 1988 album It Takes a Nation of Mill...ld Us Back ....i havent heard it but i do remember it had a big impact in the late 80s.....i prefer james brown myself but he didnt have many critically acclaimed albums...least he is in the top 40 of all time...
