Why is being a Prince fan soooo boring now? Gone are the days of an album every year, singles, b sides......usually a tour with current and old material!!!Yeah its what every1 else does but as a fan thats y u follow a music artist???
Gone is the mystery of Prince!!!!The guy who never spoke and built a huge aura round him probably not seen in popular music.....
Sometimes I think he was better off with Warner Brothers who probably influenced his lbum choices and hence better albums!!!

I'm bored also as a fan. Not for the reasons you listed above, though. I'm mostly bored because his last 2 or 3 albums aren't really "new" to me. It's like since 3121, every album seems to be the same.
20ten is just boring to me. There are only 2 songs that get me going. The rest are just dull and uneventful to me.
I wish he could have continued to build on his web marketing. There is so much more that could have been done on Prince's part to keep fans happy and get new fans. His ideas were all good, but his execution was horrible. I really expected a LOT more from a musician that prided himself on being a web pioneer.
The Lotusflow3r project (website) was a complete disappointment. I didn't mind joining a website for $77, but I feel that it should be worth it. One bonus track, a "b-side" here and there just doesn't cut it. Not to mention the video section was weak as hell! I understand that he didn't promise anything but the 3 albums, a t-shirt and some videos, but if those videos would have been available for downloading in dvd quality and in a format that is universal, I would have been satisfied.
So, yes, I'm bored and hope that he takes a break and reevaluates how he releases his music. The newspaper thing is cool, but it's not widespread. Although, I will say that this time around, it was relatively easy to get the new album via the newspaper's site. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Depends what you mean by boring. I agree that the anticipation of a new album has gone for me and there was a time when I would tidy my room ready to enjoy the new album in a perfect environment the second I got it...but after NPS that optimism has been replaced with a sense of trepidation where I almost expect an album to be Luke-warm but that understandable to me because after years of constant albums appealing to me NPS suddenly marked a baron spell where very few have connected with my Prince button. It also feels like NPS marked the end of that regular release sensation but that might be because the NPGMC shambles started up not too many years after It may seem more boring because your looking back over 30 years worth of development and envelope pushing fromm a time where alot of his output seems very samey or almost bolted together so much so that it's only the odd song that stands out and reignites that spark. For me my relationship with Prince feels how I imagine a very long marriage feels...after a while it becomes so engrained in your life that you accept it and you have a huge unconditional love even though you may not find them quite as sexy as you once did. Put it this way if any of the recent albums like 20ten were his debut album how many people would get into Prince and how many could say it stands out from the crowd. He's certainly lost/dropped the showman side if him live...no more trademark guitars, no more piano, no drums, no dancing....but then he's getting older. I do agree though that this section of Princes career does feel like hardwork for me...I'm not ready for a divorce but his farting in bed is starting to annoy me big time

I get where you're coming from.
To me, the last of the "big" traditional releases came with Rave. That album was semi-hyped up and he was doing a LOT of high profile appearances. It was also one of the last albums before the internet file sharing took off.
I don't think he's lost his ability to entertain at all. Sure, he's not humping the floor and doing major dancing, but I don't expect a 52 year old to do all of that. To me, as long as he plays well and continues to give me great arrangements (like the new version of LRC), I'm happy.
I feel his music is still "sexy" overall, but he just adds more social and spiritual elements to his music. I don't have a problem with either. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

It all depends on what kind of fan you are.
If you are the kind of fan who appreciates the fact that creating art requires inspiration (which takes time) and that the creation of the art itself takes time, then being a Prince fan is anything but boring. We still get an album a year (for the most part) and he's still "out there" in the way he always has been.
On the other hand, if you are "instant gratification" kind of fan who wishes that Prince had a twitter account so he could tweet every time he takes a dump, then you are likely to be bored. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

So true.
I'm one that definitley is appreciative of his art and the fact that we are still getting "new" music regularly. I'm just disappointed on his promotions over the last few years.
I guess Lotus left me with a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to Prince. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Distribution and advertisting commercially is what I think is being missed, perhaps with P not being with WB but, the music is still slammin' the aura around Prince is still there but with the interviews he's had from now going back has giving us a glimpse of what he believes and what he stands for. The music is what brought us to the dance, the perfoming is what brought us to the dance.
I wasn't a member when he had his first number one song. I became a fan when "T.M.B.G.I.T.W" was a 'hit'. If you're bored, then it's time to go back in the purple archives and re-live that feeling. We all do, for that matter. I have to admit, sometimes I do get a little ... 'side-tracked' but, not so much. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

WB had no say so over what he released. He had creative control. What they did control was the frequency of the releases.

Bored as a fan? Did anyone really think the aura, the mystique, the energy - any of it was going to last forever? The dude is 52, he's slowing down. He's also fucking a 20-something chick - hell, I wouldn't be working that much either if I had a 20 something on my jocks.
Wait, I do have a 21 year old on my jock - distractions, distractions. Love 'em.
There's plenty of other great music out there. Dig for it, love it, support it. The music world existed well before Prince, and it will exist long after. Yes it's a great time to be alive and know Prince's music, but pull back on the scene and look at the bigger picture.

That's an opinion...not a fact.
No doubt he's peaked...but now, he's apart of the "living legend" crowd. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

What I really meant was that the big 'show' is in the past and every tour is a stripped back affair...that's cool afterall it's about him as a musician (although the wow of D&P tour was 'fun'). But there's something missing when he favours a bog standard stratocaster over Symbol and Cloud guitar, when the piano has been mothballed in favour of a keyboard on a wobbly stand and the master of all instruments just stands still at a mic stand. I was fortunate to go to 3 Planet Earth/21 nights gigs...if my first 'show' there had been the only one I would have been bitterly disappointed...it was short, static and he spent good sections of the show off stage or going up and down in a lift...it was the worst Prince gig I'd been to and I thought my Prince safety net had gone

1) Bria Valente isn't 21. I told you you can't stop mentioning that. Hell, Bria Valente looks about 38 to me, but whatever. 2) Its irrelevant to mention other artists when the person wants more music from Prince.

Yup, I'm bored not because Prince is boring, he's not at all, but because I can't get enough of Prince and he's nowhere in sight. I wish he'd go on tour in the US, release his album here and promote it! I miss watching him per4m live! "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Being a Prince fan during the 04-09 era was cool; it has been a better era than the 98-03 era, that's for sure.. = one new masterpiece (3121), one fine album (Musicology), comeback tours, Superbowl performance, Ultimate Prince, TV appearances, 21 Nights, and other lesser albums that featured at least two or three great songs (Chelsea, Dreamer, Feel Better, Wall of Berlin, Dance 4 me, etc.)
The crap began with the new decade and 20Ten, when Prince finally became a "yesterday's news" man, c'mon, he cannot even release his new album in the US...and he doesn't even care
2010 will be probably his worst year since 1998, 1999 or even 2003... [Edited 9/3/10 12:10pm]
