Thicke's Impromptu Tribute To Prince Thicke's Impromptu Tribute To Prince
ROBIN THICKE wowed fans during a recent night out when he spotted PRINCE in a club and jumped on stage to pay tribute to the soul singer with an impromptu performance. Thicke and Prince were among revellers at Manhattan's trendy 1Oak nightclub on Wednesday night (18Aug10) when the Lost Without U hitmaker spied the Purple Rain star. A clubgoer tells the New York Daily News excited Thicke grabbed the club's mic and crooned an a cappella version of Prince hit Kiss - causing his idol to break into a short dance.

I saw Thicke live in New Orleans about three years ago, and he was great. I'm not really a fan of his music, but his show, a scaled down R&B Revue-type presentation, was worth the ticket.

Nowhere does it say he was "on stage" with Prince. This is how news gets twisted.
From the report, they were at a club (Prince most likely in a private booth) and Thicke grabbed a mic and started singing.

Nice that he thought that much of Prince. However the only other thing i can say about Robin is that he is foine as hell!! Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Thanks for sharing the story. I had wondered to what extent Thicke--also a poly-instrumentalist and singer (writer too?)--had exposure to Prince. The first time I heard Thicke's "Can U Believe" it immediately brought to mind Prince's "Still Waiting" from his 1979 eponymously titled second album. "Can U Believe" doesn't really sound like "Still Waiting" but I find it is very similar in flavor and style. I was also curious about the content of the lyrics, which speaks to some more existential and profound life realities, and how it loosely parallels some of the self-empowerment lyrics of certain Prince songs ("Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do" is an example that comes to mind.)
Thicke's "Sex Therapy" song also sounds like it was crafted straight from the mid-eighties Prince playbook.
I only know a handful of Robin Thicke's songs but I agree he's a very impressive talent--and yes, foin. (Not as foin as Prince, but still very easy on the eyes. )

How exciting would that have been?!?!?!? I would have died just seeing Prince get up and break into that dance. How awesome it would be to be at trendy nightclubs where the likes of Prince visit? A dream come true!! Robin Thicke has a couple cool songs, Sex Therapy being my fave of his. HE's nowhere on Prince's level, but I like him more now that he recognizes the god that Prince is!![Edited 9/4/10 15:53pm] Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

That's pretty cool. Knew of Robin Thicke, but nothing about him or his music. I remember him performing live on "Dancing with the Stars" and he was pretty good.
Gotaa question his choice of song though...I mean "Kiss"?!
