Prince Finds of the Day

I took a detour today while out running errands, and decided to stop by my local mom & pop used record store. This is what I found.

I went through the 45's, which I rarely do. They had a buttload of the purple vinyl promo only 45's of "When Doves Cry" (same song on both sides), that was sent only to radio stations. $5 each, but I have one, so I passed.

Then I came across the 45 for "Delirious" b/w "Horny Toad". It was the same picture, I think, as the "Little Red Corvette" maxi single. The back had the 1999 cover on it, w/ the songs below it. However, the whole slip case was a fold-out poster. One side had Prince on the bed w/ water color paints (as in the album), and the other side was a calendar for the year 1999. I noticed June 7 had a small yellow triangle around the number 7, to highlight his birthday. Total cost: $4. Pristine condition.

Then I turned around, and up against a wall in a small stack of 12" records was a perfect copy of Madhouse 16 on vinyl. Snagged it SO fast. Total cost: $5. Pristine condition.

I never knew about the "Delirious" cover being a fold out, but was super happy to find it.

I'm still on the hunt for a non-Prince 12" called "Sweepstakes" from a group (produced by Stephen Bray who worked w/ Madonna a lot in the beginning years) named Nursery School. I'd even settle for the MP3, but I dig everywhere I can to find that single. I've yet to find it.

Anyway - good scores today.

I know it's out there for sale, but I'd like to find it in a record store, or at least get an Mp3 first.

The Madhouse album is a great find, well done Ernest.

I love days like the one you just described. I recently found SOTT, Batdance, and Mountains UK 12inch singles, SOTT and Batdance were still sealed, Mountains was brand new and unplayed, guy wanted £4 each for them, i was very happy at finding the two that were sealed.

Just goes to show, bargains are out there.

I love being a collector it's a really cool hobby. The Delirious 7" you got was a bargain I missed out on that a few years ago was willing to pay £15 but someone beat me to it $4 is a total steal. I have a uk LRC 7" which has a similar fold out poster the front cover is different but it has the 1999 calender. The Madhouse lp was a similar bargain well done Ernest! smile

Nice find. There were a handful of pull-out calendar sleeves for Little Red Corvette and Delirious, but the Little Red Corvette pull-out wasn't available in the US.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

They had a lot of older 45's, like 1999/LRC back to back, as well as LRC b/w whatever its original b-side was (I forget). I saw Kiss, Anotherlover, U Got The Look, as well as promo copies of "Alphabet St" and "Glam Slam", both in clear plastic sleeves, with the song on both sides. All about $4 each on average.

I'm actually setting out soon to fill in the gaps of the vinyl albums that I don't have. I have all the Prince stuff on CD, but only misc albums on vinyl. I have most all the 12" singles to my knowledge. I need to make a list.

^ Just so you know, The Rainbow Children vinyl LP is extremely hard to find. evillol

I bought a bunch of back-to-back Prince 45s with plain sleeves at a garage sale years ago. I assumed they came out of a jukebox, but I'm not certain. I would love to have all the jukebox title strip cards and display the 45s with them, but I imagine they're hard to find and expensive to collect piece-meal.

The newest thing I have is either Rave un2 and 1999 The New Master. I'm only looking for stuff up to that point. If I happen to find TRC or whatever from the 00's, that's bonus. My list is first 1978-1989, then 1990-1999.

PS I just realized the Madhouse 16 vinyl is a promo copy. It has the gold imprint for radio stations only. Even cooler. Gheezus, the record is in just such excellent condition, I'm stoked.

I'm seriously thinking about buying a record player again after reading so many posts on here. Esp. since I keep seeing an LP of The Family that no one has bought and hearing about LPs sounding better than any CDs. (Except for certain Prince LPs? Lovesexy and Parade?) So, my question is: if I decide to buy a record player again, what would be a good one out of the new ones available? The ones they have at my local record store that are new can convert LPs to mp3s and hook up to computer speakers but not to my ancient Kenwood receiver to get great sound from my ancient speakers my X built and gave me. I haven't owned a record player since the 80s--please help! lol

I got the Japanese import of Scandalous Sex Suite (with all the extra tracks on) by mistake many years ago. I only had enough money for the 'normal' version so reluctantly bought it leaving the Japanese one on the shelf....left the store to find they put the import into my box in error....my pace quickened and I never went back to that store.

Sorry in advance if you paid for the import and got the normal version in your box but.... lol

Here are the pics of the two records in question.

Side note: I picked up the Batman soundtrack for $1 today at a tag sale. I needed an extra CD copy. Mine was sort of weird.

You'll notice the yellow triangle around June 7. Hmmm, I wonder how that got there?!

Roadrunner Records always has some Mpls Sound vinyl. It's on 43rd and Nicollet next to the original Flyte Tyme studios.

It's funny when you encounter something you want really badly out of nowhere as you did with the Madhouse record, and then snatch it at lightning speed as if somebody else will swoop in at that very instant and claim it. But that second and a half is the most horrifying second and a half anybody could ever experience.

See stories like this are nice. I remember young & dumb and strung-out on herb & didn't buy "The Gold Experience", "The Black Album", none of "The Time" material or none of the "Madhouse" albums on cd. I brought "The Gold Experience' & "The Black Album on cassette but when I got older & took collecting more seriously, I wanted them on disc. I was at a used cd store & as usual I check the Prince section & BAMM...a brand new un-opened "Black Album" with a price tag of $29.99 and an "Out of Print" sticker on it. The guy said he had it for 9 years & at 3 stores later it was still on the shelf. I knew at that point I was onto something so I started to check other used cd stores & BAMM...I found all of "The Time" albums & "The Gold Experience" all un-opened & not costing more than $13.99.
