What Could Prince Do to Make You Happy?

Musically, since there seem to be quite a few people who don't dig his new music since... whenever. What do you think he could do to make the masses of those who have lost interest come back? He seems to be using a lot of his old style music from the eighties as many have referenced on here, comparing songs to earlier songs. Would you like to see Prince collaborate more with the Revolution? Collaborate with some of today's younger artists like Van Hunt or someone else? What do you think?

If he collaborated with Sheila and/or the Revolution, great. I'm all for it. (I'm not for collaborations with young artists, though. Not at all.)

That's all beside the point to me, though. I know some people love his last few albums and consider them among his best work, but they're not hitting me. They seem to strike me as rather boring and a little lifeless. And his songwriting seems to be getting lazy (it's like he just throws out the same patterns of lyrics and goes into some rote kind of pattern...e.g., some variation of "Tell me your name/Let's play a game" making it into songs multiple times).

Musically, there are many good songs, but even then he borrows too liberally from other sources without credit. And then there is the way he seems to have become the Prince of Pop. It's like he makes disposable, in-the-moment songs that try to capture a current sound, but then those songs are forgotten almost immediately after being released.

Sorry if that's a long-winded answer, but those are some things that make me a little unhappy with his current output. So I guess not doing those things would make me happy.

This is a far fetched answer.. but I would like to see him take one year or even two off from music completely, and go live life somehere outside the Paisley world and travel. Then come back with new ideas, new sounds in his head and start from there. And then collaborate with some new people. In other words stop drawing from the same well over and over again.

As much as "in theory" it would be awesome, I think a revolution reformation would never live up to our expectations.

Yyyyeah, that's not gonna work out in terms of all new material. No band reassembles back to their original state. They always kinda suck, the chemistry just wouldn't be there anymore.

I'm actually fine with his new material, I'm not into a lot of it, but look at how long Prince has dominated pop. No one stays on top more than ten years, and Prince is no different. There'll never be another Purple Rain, so what do people want? Let the man make music and if you don't like it, listen to the old stuff, there's way more than enough.

I am happy now b..u...t my wish list would consist of:

1. Remastering and re-releasing with bonus tracks his entire Warner Bros. collection.

2. Open the vault and release stuff like Roadhous Garden and various other recordings.

If P came to South Florida and did a 3 city show, went back to Mpls and did a show in Paisley Park, I'd like to see a U.S. Tour of the 20Ten album and perhaps a Hit & Run.

Although I'm generally content...

I feel like Prince is surrounding himself with people that aren't aspiring him to further greatness. It's been established that he's great, a genius, so it's not to say he's doing poorly. He's just doing kinda average. I know his average output is better than most of the mainstream music that is out there, but that shouldn't even be a means by which I measure his output and performance since I don't consider Prince mainstream as far as "trendy" or pop-like goes in the first place. I feel like he can still do better than what he's been doing with albums that seem uninspired (Planet Earth) or contain an average-grade rehash of things he's done before and mastered already (MPLSound...even though I love Ol' Skool Company). I do enjoy his live shows as of late (the ones I've seen or heard), but it just seems like Prince has lost some of his "ummpf". Maybe it's his JW lyrics, the fact that he can't dance like he used to, or the poor lyrics in some of his songs (Hot Summer).

But when I listen to 20ten many of these thoughts dissipate, so in general Prince fans are just spoiled. neutral

BUT then again...what Prince really needs is a permanent, well-run, up-to-date, interesting website where he shares music, news, video, etc with his fans without charging more than $50 for an annual membership.

i would be happy if he autographed a cloud guitar and gave it to me LOL

i would also be happy if the npg music club came back with downloads and he would follow through on his idea of letting us order videos of his concerts like he was about to do during the Jam Of The Year/L4OA tour

Someone in an earlier post said he should take some time off and travel. I agree with that. He needs to remove himself from whatever motley crew of yes men he has and venture out. Although I don't dig her newer music, Madonna has branched out and tried different sounds on her later releases. He should try the same. His music is indeed becoming formulaic and 20ten does sound lazilly done with the exception of Lavaux and Laydown.

Something that would make me happy would be for Prince to record more albums with the entire band in attendance doing their thing, like what was done during the prince sessions. There seemed to be alot of life in that music. Stop trying to emulate the sounds of whatever's popular of the time and do what you do best: create great music.

I would like to see him fall madly in love again, and have the big family he used to dream about. Oh yeah, and be so inspired he puts out some majorly ass-kicking tracks.

Stay alive. Is that too much to ask? lol

Least be here until he's 100 or something. I'm not one of those "release the Vault" people. It's up to him but we're losing a lot of legends.

He's healthy and well, yes, but you just never know when you're gonna clock out.

I would love a tour of the states with the south included. Mississippi and New Orleans would be great.

I like all of his music from his entire career. There are as many classics from 2000-2010 to me as from 1978-1989. The nineties is my least favorite era of his music. I love the rainbow children as a whole. Planet Earth is my least favorite collection of the past few years. Still I love Mr. Goodnight, Lion of Judah, the title track also. His more religious lyrics are ok with me because its easy to find people who talk about sex on every song but he actually takes things deeper. We need artist like that. There are enough coked out, sex obsessed, materialistic rappers and pop stars. Prince breaks the mold and thats why I love his work. He would not stand out today with a song like Get Off. That sort of song is expected. Songs like Act of God and songs about real love like Better With Time separate him from the pack. Our world is in trouble and he knows it. I'll blast BOOM in my car way before some typical Lil Wayne BULLSHIT. To dig new Prince is to be concious. Keep it coming my man.
