Is "Exodus" worth buying?

I heard this years ago and saw it on sale at the NPG store, but I never bought the NPG releases (save NewPowerSoul.)

I was just checking out online sellers and such.

?????

it's worth it for the title track alone, a funkadelicparliarment type affair. and hallucination rain also has a bit of the maggot brain feel, especially the unreleased 10 minute version. it's just the segues that get annoying after a few listens

Enjoy some songs on it, but as said, after the first listen the talky segues can get annoying.

From wikipedia:

"Exodus is a 1995 album by the The New Power Generation. While their previous album, Goldnigga was more hip-hop oriented, Exodus is more of a pure funk offering, strongly influenced by the sound of Parliament and P-Funk. Although the tracklist boasts 21 tracks, many of them are narrative segues, leaving only nine actual songs. Of those, one is an instrumental. The album spawned three singles, however only one was released in the U.S.

This album still downplays Prince's involvement in the band, with "Tora Tora" handling most of the lead vocals. Prince adopts the persona of "Tora Tora", whose face is covered with a red veil. Prince also is clearly present on many of the spoken segues, although sometimes using a disguised accent."

Track listing

  1. "NPG Operator Intro" – 0:35
  2. "Get Wild" – 4:32
  3. "segue" – 0:38
  4. "DJ Gets Jumped" – 0:22
  5. "New Power Soul" – 4:10
  6. "DJ Seduces Sonny" – 0:38
  7. "segue" – 0:43
  8. "Count the Days" – 3:24
  9. "The Good Life" – 5:48
  10. "Cherry, Cherry" – 4:45
  11. "segue" – 0:18
  12. "Return of the Bump Squad" – 7:20
  13. "Mashed Potato Girl Intro" – 0:21
  14. "segue" – 3:00
  15. "Big Fun" – 7:26
  16. "New Power Day" – 3:49
  17. "segue" – 0:14
  18. "Hallucination Rain" – 5:49
  19. "NPG Bum Rush the Ship" – 1:40
  20. "The Exodus Has Begun" – 10:06
  21. "Outro" – 0:37

I think most people would agree that Exodus is the best of the 3 NPG albums.

As mentioned before, it does suffer from segue overload, but aside from this it's great.

The actual songs contained on the album are...

Get Wild

New Power Soul

Count The Days

The Good Life

Cherry, Cherry

Return Of The Bump Squad

Big Fun

Hallucination Rain

The Exodus Has Begun

.

"Count the days" and "The exodus has begun" are top-notch, the rest I could do without.

Goldnigga is the best of the 3 NPG albums IMO!

Excellent album, IMO in the top 3 of his 90s output (with TGE and prince)

Agree with the sentiment that the segues get annoying, but I liked them as part of the experience of a full LP listen-through when I first heard it.

'Hit him so hard, change fell out his pockets' cool

Return of the bumpsquad is seriously funky.

Yes, it's seriously funky. dancing jig

This is the best NPG album for me and some of these songs live are the bomb.

Love it, love the outtakes even more.

The segues are a pain in the tits though, unless that's your thing.

I never understand these "worth buying" threads. Cd's are the most inexpensive art you can buy. Hold off on one deathly McDonalds dinner or a crappy WalMart aisle item and you're in there. Consumers and their choices.

Maybe it's more a case of "there's so much to buy, and I want it all... should I get this now, or go after some other stuff I really, really want". ?

The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives.
The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists.
Is it a deal?

IS AIR WORTH BREATHING?????????

Fuck, the title track alone will stick to the roof of your mouf for WEEKS after. The segues are funny, but sometimes distracting. Rip the CD without them. It's Prince at his most balls-to-the-wall. It's a perfect companion to The Gold Experience.
