I think a Prince/Mark Ronson collaboration would be amazing. Ronson has a respect for the old-school sound, as does Prince, but he knows how to make it sound modern.

I forget the name, but in the 80's there was some guy, he made some album called Purple Rain I think, and it had these great songs, like I Would Die 4 U, Let's Go Crazy, Darling Nikki, forget the name, but I think he should produce Prince.

I get that, but at a certain point we just have to accept who he is, rather than what we would like him to be.

I think of Prince as our stubborn grandpa that nobody can reason with. He could make any shrink suicidal.

Joe Henry - Produces, writes, sings, plays guitar/ piano... Exceptional at capturing a 'live band in the studio' feel (ANALOG TOO).

I'd like to see Prince lay down tracks in a more intimate setting with musician's interplay, live instruments, more dynamic range/ less compression. Henry excels with this method and Prince certainly the skills/ chops to flourish in such an environment. I'd think Prince would take away a lot more from working in this context than he would expect to...

Henry's produced:

Allen Toussaint

Elvis Costello

Ani Difranco

Me’Shell Ndegeocello

Susan Tedeschi

Solomon Burke

Bettye Lavette

Bruce Cockburn

Aimee Mann

Loudon Wainwright III

Blind Boys of Alabama

Even wrote some songs for Madonna too…

Hope someone on your team is scanning the thread P biggrin

It wouldn't be Prince without self production.

I think any producer worth their salt would be intimidated by working with him, so much so, the work would suffer. Only a big ego, like that arsewipe Diddy, would think they were up to the job, and all that would come out would be derivative shizz.

Considering the volume of work he's done, it's unsurprising that people find the quality 'variable'. Personally, I might not like every single song he's done, but as a body of work, we really have been spoiled. cool

NONSENSE

I wouldn't pick anyone to produce an entire Prince album. But it would be interesting if Prince let a few collaborate/produce a song for him...

1. Kanye West

2. Will.I.Am

3. George Duke

4. R Kelly

I disagree - producers who aren't "worth their salt" would be intimidated maybe, but any experienced (or, to continue the salt metaphor, shall we say "seasoned"? lol ) would jump at the chance!

I agree with the rest of your points though.

prince - That dude went balls to the wall on Prince music, and it was as awesome from 1993-1996 as it was exactly 10 years before.

Robert Mutt Lange - seriously, the dude can whip anyone into shape. Can you even imagine?!?!

Rick Rubin - why not.

Justin Timberlake - he's been hijacking Prince's old sound anyway, so why not let JT truly take him back and remind him what he used to do.

The guys from Toto. Such a great history of songwriting and producing with those guys. I'd also love to hear Prince do a Toto produced version of "Africa".

I must admit that I'm no fan of JT. Wasn't a fan of the boy group he was in either. However, all of the songs I've heard bearing his name have been produced by mega-producers not JT himself. What would make you believe that he would make a good producer, or even a good producer for Prince? eek

All great ideas. If at least one JT/Prince collab ever happened, I would be a happy happy camper.

Not a fan of JT the musician as I am of JT the funny guy on SNL, but I do see the potential of the two collaborating together. The new alone would sell more albums with JT's name in there.

David Bowie, the man is another genius! I know what your thinking that Him

and Prince have two completely different styles, but I think it could work. The

thing is Prince would have to be open to criticism of his work and Mr. Bowie

has to try hard not to sock Prince in the mouth when he starts rantings about

Chemtrails and the prophecies about the world coming to a tragic end! lol razz wink

?uestlove and D'angelo. They don't have to produce as much as consult and help steer Prince in a certain direction. Dudes who love Prince and know what's good about Prince. They of course would want to bring in Wendy and Lisa. At that point you have nearly an entire band. Might as well bring in Me'Schell.

Oh, MAN, that would be hot!
