Songs from other singers: Prince should sing

What song(s) should Prince re-make. The Rolling Stones, The Isley Brothers, Ron Isley(Gemini) comes to mind. I will add a list later.

Don't bother.

Unfortunately he's putting an excessive amount of other people's music into his live act.

The guy is (well, used to be) REALLY good at making songs. Why do y'all insist in him covering other musician's work?

Prince is just shy of being a cabaret act dedicated to the 70s soul music. He should focus writing his own music - especially considering he kind of sucks at it right now.

none!! He should just do his own music. I am tired of him singing other people music when he has so much of his own that he wont sing

Spinlight is right. Prince is a novelty act as it is; his addition of more and more GCS and Sly, etc songs only cements his future place in Vegas with a 2-year gig a la Elton John, Cher, and Celine.

Prince has done plenty of covers anyway, either in concert or on record.

Everyday Is A Winding Road

Toyed with Shania's "You're Still the One", "Miss You", "What Have You Done For Me Lately?", "The Jam", "It's Alright", "I Wanna Take You Higher", and more. All you gotta do is dig through bootlegs and put them together with the above recorded songs, and there you have your covers album.

It was such a big deal in 1996 when he hadn't released any covers before and there were 3 on Emancipation. Now, I'd love for him to stop performing covers entirely. No recorded versions on albums, no live versions turning into long 13 minute repetitive jams at aftershows.

I think Prince should stop doing covers. What he has already done didn't work out really well, and his only cover I liked was the live version of One of Us. Also, we just got a great album, and hits+covers won't leave a lot of time for 20ten songs on his live concerts. I'd love to hear sticky like glue and beginning endlessly live instead of those Sly covers he's done for so long now...
You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

agreed that his covers are often not all that great but I'd love to hear him do EW&F's Reasons.

I tend to agree that he's gone 180 degrees when it comes to covers. From none to way too many and too often over the last 15 years. However, I would love to hear his take on the Raconteurs song "Steady As She Goes"....but that's probably not one he jams out to too often.
