has someone said that the song itself is about his son? my take is that it's about Mayte, with the life support system beeping in the background as setting the scene that the death of their child was the beginning of the end for them.

When NPS came out, people were divided as to whether the song was intended for his son or for Mayte. lol. Was rather funny.

I think it would be both at the same time. I don't think it's about the baby, but if it was, "gut torn" could be a reference to a c-section birth

but the tone sounds more like it is about a regretful sexual relationship with a woman. Until U'r IN My Arms Again sounds much more like the attitude he'd have toward the baby.

I've heard the son theory before, but I've never bought it. I'd be willing to bet that it's entirely fictional. I'm not sure where people get the idea that he's riping pages from his diary for songs. It's a rare moment when Prince opens up in his music (and I doubt it ever happens these days), and I don't think "Wasted Kisses" is one of those moments.
