As I've stated before since 20Ten I've been going back through the whole catalog and found some albums I like better now, some were about the same and some lost a little luster. Lol.

NPS - Still uneven but I enjoy it now. For the most part I feel this is Prince's version of a P-Funk style affair via the 90's.

I think it's all the horns and the graphics for the album.

1999- Not sure why I don't go to this more often but I do realize how great it is. I think it was a bit of burn out from hearing 1991, LRC, Delirious so much. A big plus is it's like an album full of extended versions. I wish he did this more often. If all the cuts were edited down it would be a single album. I'm glad it's not. I've alwasys been a fan of his extended workouts.

Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Come. There isn't a song on it I really love as a standalone song, but I absolutely love it as an album. It flows quite nice, I'm putting it on right now.

Exactly what I was thinking. There are times when this is the perfect album to be listening to and I absolutely love it. Most times it is not on my top 5 list though.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Kinda off topic, but I'm really liking Sheila E's 'Fe' album atm. I really didn't give it much of a listening to when I first came across it years ago, just cherry picked the excellent version of The Glamorous Life for tracklists - which has actually become my go to version of that song. <3

But I'm really enjoying the whole album - it's much better than the 'jazz FM' noodlings of the two post-pop albums (that is, after Sex Cymbal).

This is why it's great the his music is so varied, cos even the albums we're not keen on we will enjoy a lot sometimes depending on mood etc.

We can get bored of the same sound all the time.

Depends what you're doing as well, you may not want to sit down and listen to NEWS but if it's on as relaxing background music...

Personally my least favourite is Sign 'O' The Times, too rough for my liking, give me NPS over that anyday. But sometimes Sign just clicks and I enjoy it.

We all have different tastes and favourites so there's something for everybody smile

Sign 'O' the times is definately one of those albums I will forget about then when it pops up again I can really appreciate it. Pop Life, America, great comentary on our times.

For those that know the number and don't call...F*** all ya'll

Batman.

I always kind of think of it as a throwaway, but if I really sit through it and listen (at night, only at night), it's a funky, weird, quirky, atmospheric, experiment in craziness that I can appreciate... like a freaky costume party. How was this album the soundtrack to a summer blockbuster? Maybe Prince and Tim Burton should get together again...

This. I had this thing for years and never took it out. I felt like I didn't need to, since Scandalous was the only song on there worth listening to. Plus when it came out I was like 12. What the hell did I know about anything? smile

I love revisiting things when you get older, you appreciate them more. I pulled this one out a few years ago when I decided to transfer my CD's to my hard drive and was like oh word? This is what I've been missing all this time? I love how in like in no time at all, he put together this kick ass soundtrack of music that totally feels like the characters in the film. It really is excellent work.

Forgot to mention Dance with the Devil. JFC another awesome song that totally fits the movie. P was on some ol crazy creative trip with this one for real.

lol Sorry, I couldn't resist.

But in answer to your question, I'd have to say "Around The World In A Day". Not that I forget about it, but it just doesn't get as much play as his other "peak" albums. But when I do bump it, I still find it's a pretty damned good record.

I think, in some respects, Controversy is better. I mean...it isn't a game changer (as Dirty Mind absolutely was). But Controversy was the first album on which Prince really stretched his legs, so to speak - doing a couple of longer tracks that really developed musical ideas.

It definitely set the stage for 1999.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
