Contest Song

Wow, just re-discovered this little instrumental gem from the 2001 npgmc downloads. The bass is poppin', the guitar is blazing, and that classic Prince-ly hook! Absolutely love it. I want to hear more like this.

The sad thing is that this song got saddled with a name like "Contest Song" (that's probably why I slept on it for 9 years) because the npgmc had a contest for members to record thier own version with words. Pretty cool idea though.

As far as I know, there is no info on recording date, or musicians. I am guessing it is Prince solo, and likely Rave era or 2000. The drums are live, and the synth hook sounds like some of the textures Prince used on the Rave CD.

Anyone else loving this track?

But I have been really catching up lately with this "lost" Prince era 2000-2001 and very much enjoying the material.

Nearly 100% of the (audio) NPGMC downloads can still be found on the net, if you know where and how to look. wink

vitriol

I liked Miles Rivers' version (How could I love you more).

The other 2 versions were terrible.

And Prince's instrumental -as such- wasn't exactly my cup of tea.

For me, one of the best songs (if not the very best) of all the NPGMC Year 1 was Northside. The rhythm guitar work was more than awesome.

When this instrumental was released, I was for sure it had to be an outtake from the Parade era, but it's not. It's a great song. Didn't care for any of the fan versions though.

So I have No War, How Could I Love You More and Where Are Your Dandelions. Were there any more than those three? If there are, I don't want them.

Prince's instrumental track is fun, though.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
