I plan to. The only think about lossless is that I can't play those on the iPod so I end up having to convert them anyway, then I have two copies, one flac one mp3. Too much space. When I get the bigger hard drive I might do lossless, but for now mp3 will have to do.
You're doing it backwards . . . you should rip FLAC or Apple Lossless now, and then you won't ever have to rip the CD again. You can convert directly to MP3 or AAC from the Lossless files.
Also, ripping CDs is very taxing on your optical drive, so you really don't want to have to do them all twice . . .
That is what I do. Convert from flac to mp3. And I don't usually burn CDs. Most of the stuff I get is digital. Not giving up the ipod just yet tho. Prince esta muerto...

I think you are misunderstanding. An iPod does play Lossless. It's called Apple Lossless or .m4a.
Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...e_Lossless I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

I rip the CDs once, to WAV, then convert the WAV to FLAC to backup as lossless, then convert the WAV to 256 MP3 to play on my iPod, then delete the WAV. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

A high bitrate MP3 is just as good as lossless unless you're a robot. I rip all my stuff at 320kbps.
You can play flac and ape files on an iPod with Rockbox firmware. It also has a highly superior EQ. Chili Sauce. |

Come on guys, it's 2010.
I can't believe so many of you are still keeping mp3.
Go for the real thing (lossless).

I'm going for 320kbps mp3's to have the best of both worlds....
works perfectly! |

Sure, but you're soon gonna run out of space if everything on your iPod is lossless (with their stingy HD capacities )
Dunno about everyone else, but I can't even fit a 10th of what I have on my iPod, even in lossy formats! |

I don't worry about that because I still have my 160GB iPod Classic. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

I have a classic too (80GB), but I still couldn't fit everything in lossless on a 160!

I have the 120GB, I won't buy a 160 because I'm holding out for a 200GB...
It'll come out about a month after I give up and buy the 160... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

You can find a 160GB Classic nicely priced on Amazon or Ebay. I'd get it and keep it because Apple is never going to make a 200GB Classic. They'd prefer we get an iPod Touch or an iPad, so they can string us along for another freakin' decade waiting for more hard drive space on them. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

you don't need to do that
you can rip cd's to FLAC straightaway with Winamp |

FLAC or Apple Lossless are really just for archiving or converting to future lossy versions - you really wouldn't want to play them on an iPod.
First, the difference in sound quality through the iPod is not enough to warrant playing Lossless files. Second, you're going to eat up HD storage space. Third, if you have an iPod Classic, you're going to shorten the life of your battery (and hard drive) because the iPod will have to spin up more times to load the buffer with larger files. |
