There's a bootleg of the original configuration out there. It's a bit different.

NPG Bum Rush The Ship (segue)

The Exodus Has Begun (clocking at just 6 minutes, instead of the 10 minutes we know)

NPG Operator(segue)

Get Wild

Count(segue)

DJ Gets Jumped(segue)

New Power Soul

DJ Seduces Sonny(segue)

It Takes 3

Rain(segue)

Hallucination Rain

Spooky Soup

NPG Outro (segue)

The whole thing clocks at just under 36 minutes. The album proper clocks at just over 66 minutes

There's a gazillion mixes of "Get Wild", and even the version on the early config is different and longer. I think it's funkier, and I like it more, however I believe it probably ended up on the maxi single somewhere. I've never sat down to figure out which version it is though.

.

I hope you have the other outtakes from this album Ernest, i think you have, i seem to remember you mentioning them a while back.

The 11 min Hallucination Rain, Slave 2 The System, Proud Mary, Mad, Funky, Funky Design, Super Hero and all the others. Well worth a listen despite the not so great Sonny T vox.

I love Exodus, too bad some other songs were left off, with Funky Design, Proud Mary, Love ... Thy Will Be Done(easily the best version) and Slave To The System it would have been even better, but it's still awesome.

Slave 2 The System was originally on Emancipation. I don't think style wise it would have fit on Exodus anyway. The message is more post-freedom, not pre-freedom, so it might have seemed premature on Exodus.

I would love to have seen "Love...Thy Will B Done" on ANYTHING. But I do think it would have worked quite well on Exodus, or even COME, perhaps. I love both versions of that song.

I assume you are referring to the NPG version of Slave 2 The System (the very fast, short version) and not the slower Prince version that was considered for Emancipation?

I think it's perfect, a retro Parlaiment 70's scifi collage, as garish and busy as the music and interludes on the CD.

I love the art on the CD as well. "It's feeding time"... is that what it says?

Yes.

Exodus has begun and Return of Bump Squad are among Prince's best of the 90s

Count the Days, even with the Sonny T vocals is also surprisingly good.

The rest is crap but these are 3 fantastic, essential tracks.

Maybe it's more a case of "there's so much to buy, and I want it all... should I get this now, or go after some other stuff I really, really want". ?

it is definitely worth buying. one of my favorites. but this album can be a bit pricey. so i can understand the questioning of is it worth it. it just depends on where you find it and whats being asked for it.

Of course its worth buying. prince is on it. Don't expect a cd full of hits (whatever that is). Its a not so serious collection of funked up madness. Sonny T sings a lot of the lead vocals. The funk is there for sure. The segues are funny (mash potato head girl) Truth be told, I haven't played it in a while.

I think that the high prices have something to do with the fact that this album is now OOP. It never received a worldwide release too.

Fuck, the title track alone will stick to the roof of your mouf for WEEKS after. The segues are funny, but sometimes distracting. Rip the CD without them. It's Prince at his most balls-to-the-wall. It's a perfect companion to The Gold Experience.

I got to thinking after I typed that reply that it's a lot like how Prince wrote stuff for The Time back in the day. Prince would take the edgier stuff for himself (The Gold Experience) and give the funkier stuff, often times, to The Time (NPG's Exodus). It's all very PRINCE in the end. I should come up with a great playlist incorporating the two into one.

I still think if Chaos was whittled down & reconfigured a bit, a LOT, as an EP, it would have been a great bonus CD for The Gold Experience. Perhaps just include Chaos, Zanalee, The Same December, Into The Light/I Will, Poor Goo. Let "Had U" be a hidden track.
