Starfish and Coffee. I've recently fell in love with this song, and I've done a lot of searching to try and figure out it's "meaning". From what I can tell, Prince has never said what the real meaning of the song is, but I may be wrong. I've heard the "Heroin" theory, which makes sense, but I don't buy it. Does anyone have any other insight on this amazing song? | |

Question: There's been a discussion going on around the 'net about what 'Starfish and Coffee' means. Can u explain that song? Is it about a mentally challenged girl?

I've heard it explained as:
"The song is about drug abuse. The different items in Lucy's lunchbox were anagrams for psychodelic and hard drugs she was taking to the point of overdose and ultimately she dies. It's a sad song but written in a playful fairytale context. Prince describes Cynthia as someone who is strange and clearly out of her mind because she wears two different colored socks everyday with beautiful dresses, and drawing strange graffiti on the walls of the school."
**Do you think there's any validity to this explanation?
