i've noticed some prince songs in recent years, like on rainbow children and lotusflow3r, make mention of hypnotic this and that. just wondering what he's talking about and the role hypnosis plays in prince's world

I can only think of two references (ie. at the start of 1+1+1=3 on TRC and Love Like Jazz from Lotusflow3r), but I think he's mainly taking poetic license.

I doubt it points to a specific interest in hypnosis, but rather is just a way to paint a particular picture, in both cases being that of the hypnotic-like state one can feel within an intimate setting

if I remember right, there's a reference to "hypnosis" in the Love4OneAnother TV special.

Prince looks in a dictionary and gives this 1 side with this word to the girl, she's named Nikki isn't she?

thank you Chiquetet! those are exactly the only two references i know of. i agree it's probably the poetic license. just wanted to mention it in case anyone is ready to break into some esoteric discourse about some funky hypnotic erotic ancient egyptian rituals or somethin like that.

i'm kind of amazed about the initial reactions to this thread. what is so wrong or weird

about the question the op asks?

prince clearly mentions hypnosis in several songs and during the 1990s he seemed to

be at the very least a bit interested in the subject. wether he approached it directly by

mentioning it or it's consequences or sideways (by mentioning psychoanalysis, which

is closely linked to hypnosis from a historical and also a practical point of view or by

adressing states of mass illusion as in the one song speech etc etc).

he underwent psychoanalysis himself for a while, he even mentioned it to oprah, did

he not? i'm not saying that psychoanalysis = hypnosis. just trying to trace back some

thread in his thought process. he probably underwent hypnosis himself at some point.

even if it was just to see if he and mayte had already met in a previous life or such.

There is nothing weird about hypnosis. Hypnosis is often used when people try to recall an event stored in their subconcious mind that they might not be able to remember with their concious mind. I've read many books about past-life regressions where countless people were able to recall events from past lifes. There are people that don't believe in it because it interferes with their religious beliefs. But let's not forget that the bible and other holy scriptures have been edited many times over the years by men!!! There is evidence that at some point reincarnation was part of the bible, but was edited out - again by men!!! The bible was translated and handed down by men to suit their needs. For example : While adultery is clearly a sin and one of the 10 commandments in the bible the punishment was often, if not exclusively enforced when women comitted adultery while men could get away with it.

I do believe in a loving God who loves men and women alike and doesn't see women or children as second class citizens or as the man's personal property. Woman and man is supposed to be equal and form a union to complete each other. I don't believe however what has been handed down in the bible verbatim. To this day men decide what does or doesn't belong in the bible and to this day churchleaders are men.
