Alright...WHOS THE BASTARD THAT FORGOT to bring a videocamera the SOTT concerts?

Thats rediculous. out of all those concerts there is not ONE audience filmed bootleg out. thats atrocious. Is this the only tour of his that doesn't have audience ( or whatever) available?

( anybody who uses the SOTT movie as an argument/excuse gets kicked in the nuts )

this is regatdangdiculous:-|

True. Guess the security was on its peak around 87? Strange, still..

But more than that, i love the fact you're calling everyone who saw a SOTT show a "bastard". biggrin

considering the size of camcorders in 1987, they weren't exactly inconspicuous. hell, they were barely even portable in those days. they weren't very prevalent either.

Yes, it's slim pickings for that tour. The shows from First Ave and New Year's Eve at Paisley Park make up for shit audience filmed shows though.

Question is why are there none of Prince's personal videos from the SOTT tour floating around?

They're out there for all others prior, but not after.

Can we assume that somebody who left the camp around 86 was a leak?

As I said in another thread, that's what makes the SOTT period so mysterious as there is very little to none bootlegs of video or audio concert wise.

actually, I don't think WB was involved. which may be why there isn't anything available. plus, wasn't most of the footage unusable, leading to them pretty much re-shooting/re-recording most of it at PP?

Exactly! They weren't gonna let ANYTHING leak. I'm kinda glad it didn't though Prince could release a rare concert of that tour if he wants, it's less likely we'll get it anyway. lol

i just spent literally about 80 mins checking my completist collection against a list (ie. using a list and checking i had everything), and it's right there isn't a fully shot SOTT normal tour show in circulation. you have the first ave 87 pro shot, the new years show at paisley, you have a few soundboards, you have the SOTT movie outtakes from paisley, and a few tv performances, and a few tv clips from main shows, but not one proshot or cammed main show

if you look back, there was only a few cammed shows until the 90s as camcorders were fucking huge things using full size VHS tapes. it would be like trying to smuggle in a box of timberland boots under your jumper, whereas now we have cellphones that shoot HD footage that would litereally fit up your arse. theres one cam job from 85, god knows how they got in with that, they must have had help from an insider, then you have the paris and japan shows from 86, and the quality is fucking awful. skip 87 and you start to get the odd thing in 88, nothing in 89, and things start to kick off in the 90s with cam jobs, but the quality is nothing better than absolute shit. theres only rock in rio in 91 which was fortunately proshot in full in excellent quality multi cam broadcast, then from 92/93 you get a reasonable amount of shows and the quality starts to get a bit better, but it's usually shakeycam stuff from far back, with people hiding cams in holdalls with holes cut out, pretty unwatchable really. theres one or two watchable shows from 95, just one shakycam from japan 96, but by 97 the quality starts to pickup a fair bit, smaller cams, stabilization stuff and some reasonably watchable stuff. security starts to get real tight but you have a nice berlin show from 2002 and a bunch of watchable shows from 2004, but as all the shows are pretty much the same, you just need to stick to the pro shot LA tour opener. the o2 videos were pretty crap as security was tighter than a gnats ass so even though cams were small, tech was good, you needed massive balls of steel to shoot one of those shows

whats nice now is with the advent of cameraphones and youtube we enter the new world where a whole show can be peiced together by editing together all the youtube clips synched to a complete audio recording, and the end results are pretty amazing. lots of good quality HD footage, mostly widescreen and close to the stage, and as they are made up of lots of clips you get an interesting change of camera viewpoint instead of a fixed static camera, so you get close ups most of the time, and further back shots and shots from the video screens

it's just a shame we didn't have all that back in the old days, but we still got things covered pretty well on the audio front, but a lot of recordings from back then were a bit ropey. these days the quality is pretty excellent and every show gets circulated so we have a great document of his career

Hate to tell you all now, but there was just an ebay auction that was about 3 U-matic proshot tapes of a 1987 Prince concert on ebay. All gone quickly.

These were likely tapes of the original footage that was mostly rejected.

Well all hope isn't lost for the "old" days. Prince was a filmaholic freak back in the day, at least in the early 90s up until 97 when I was around and into it big time. There were several shows at Glam Slam MSP that were professionaly filmed (91 to 94), and several at Paisley Park (92-97). Hell he even had James "McGoo" McGregor (Poor Goo - "all the film he shot, it ain't too hot") filiming the private after parties, for what reason I have no idea. He wasn't performing, just hanging out. I'm just afraid if they ever do get released, it will be many years from now when I have a foot in the grave.

I think the question has been properly answered in this thread.

I just wanted to add that just for the way of asking the question you don't deserve an answer.

You should have been there yourself with one of those TV-like 'handy' cams and record it yourself. Smartass.

i know he records everything, but whilst there's about 150 or so proshot videos circulating (i have all the one in circulation), there's not much real chance of them getting out to fans, especially not the earlier stuff with swearing. one interesting thing about the internet is that you could just stick some single cam proshot vhs tapes online and the quality would be sufficient, whereas it wasn't long ago that there wasn't much hope as the quality wasn't good enough for an official vhs or dvd release, and as we head towards blurays we move further from that possibility. he's streamed the undertaker and sacrifice of victor long form videos from lotusflower and even put flacs online, so he could put some of those proshot shows online in xvid/divx/mp4 quality, but he just won't do it

having seem the quality of some of the tapes played back at paisley it's a shame that the quality isn't so hot, and that's partly because of the dark lighting and partly as they don't seem to have taken much care in dubbing the tapes or looking after the masters

For sure. Once an item has been posted all you need is the sellers ebay ID to make the purchase. Doesn't actually have to be done within the ebay buy/sell system. You can just contact them directly.

i disagree ;

1990 - 06 - 03 - Feyenoord Stadium , Rotterdam

1990 - 06 - 07 - Alsterdorfer Sporthalle , Hamburg

1990 - 08 - 04 - Festivalterrein , Wercher

1990 - 08 - 05 - Ijsstadion Thialf , Heerenveen

are all decent/good imo

how come only 10 mins? was the taper caught or did they chicken out to avoid being caught or batter run out, tape run out etc? or just crap quality and they gave up? or did someone trip over the power cable and pull it out the wall socket? you needed muscles like arnie to hold one of those things from the 80s. there were several deaths each year from camcorders falling on children at xmas parties
