WHAT IF... 1999 was a movie? So, I'm a fan of Marvel's WHAT IF...? comic books. Yes I am a nerd.
Anyway, what if Prince's itch to create a movie came a year or two sooner and he decided to released 1999 as the soundtrack to the movie 1999?

Nah it wouldn't work out. The songs on 1999 on way too long so the "performances" would of took forever. The songs on 1999 just don't fit into a movie as perfect as Purple Rain did. | |

Might've been cool as a Blade Runner-esque sci-fi musical, but only if it didn't take itself too seriously. ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

Purple Rain songs were tailored to fit a movie. That's why there was no album in 1983. Prince was busy writing songs that would flow in between the plot of the movie.
Had Prince made a movie during the 1999 era, now that would have been something to witness. Prince was still raw and not as quite glammed out as PR and we would have seen something very dark and moody like the video for Automatic. Prince was into chains, whips, and the idea of rape at the time.(Think Extralovable, Lust U Always, Automatic, LRC, LCD, LPWM, Irresistable Bitch and more...) Come to think of it, after reviewing what he was writing and his image he was portraying at the time, 1999 the movie may have been the BOMB, much better than Purple Rain. __________________________________________________

It would've been a Blade Runner-esque sci-fi musical that took itself much too seriously. lol The Blade Runner vibe inspired the look of his album photos. I wonder if it would've been as cool story-wise as it possibly could've looked. Probably would've been cryptic as hell, lol and Purple Rain probably wouldn't exist. [Edited 8/14/10 11:04am] | |

Yeah, there was a Concert Film for the Controversy tour set in Houston called "The Second Coming" I believe..But of course never saw the light of day..Imagine a movie like the Sign O' The Times concert film but from 1981 in the Controversy tour.. Some people think I'm kinda cute
