Hohner. Always sounds awesome.

The cloud was nice visually, but the sound was always very dry and wirey and tinny. I also liked the symbol guitar in the mid 90's. It had a nice, wet, thick sound, but a bit crisper than the Hohner, but not dry like the Cloud.

hmmm I never thought of the guitar work on Just My Imagination from the "Small Club" show as that!

Well the guitar on SOTT, Play In The Sunshine, The Cross and other things from the SOTT movie, plus boots I've heard DO sound like that. One or two songs out of hundreds of performances isn't tneough to convince me it had a good sound. I didn't like it on Lovesexy either.

I think him using in the movie and on tour for "Purple Rain" was misleading, because we know from the First Avenue video where it was recorded, he used the Hohner for the solo, not the cloud. That's why, for me, on the PR tour when he'd use that guitar for the "Purple Rain" solo, it sounded thin and cheap compared to how it REALLY sounded originally. It's also why "purple Rain" sounded the best it's sounded in years when he used the Hohner on the Brit Awards (with Sheila, Wendy, and Lisa) to do the solo.

The Hohner. I hope I can get enough effects and some Kinman pickups so I can get my Tele to sound like his. I mean he obviously uses a buttload of effects to make it sound like that but in the end it's unmistakably a Tele sound.

thecloud

For a long time I was a Cloud junkie, but the Hohner for me is where it's at. I own a Hohner & 2 Clouds with the Hohner being the last purchased & I can see why he reaches for it so frequently!!!

Agreed! Nothing tops some "Controversial" chicken-scratchin' on the Hohner!
