my first boot was 14th august 86 london wembley arena, the gig with ronnie wood and sting on the fantastic version of miss you. this was from the old days of tape bootlegs

i got a few other tapes, i remember getting the 21st march 1987 first avenue show which was the most amazing thing to receive at the time. crystal clear soundboard recording and such a fantastic show. i also remember the day i got the black album on vinyl, it was such an exciting thing to get at the time, an unreleased album by the worlds biggest and hottest star. charade was also cool, but you already had most of it. getting small club on cd was just incredible, it was such a great show and the best quality that you had ever heard from a bootleg, and one of the very first cd bootlegs. it was £40 at the time for the 2 discs, but it was well worth it. then came crucial on cd, that was also fucking amazing. the quality wasn't perfect, but compared to some of the awful shit that was on the royal jewels triple lp it was great. chocolate box was another great lp in the early days, just fantastic music, and back then it seemed like forever for those tracks to get an official release, even if it was just a year or two later

come around 95 when moonraker/thunderball/etc started putting the boots out it was a never ending stream of great new shows with great artwork on a regular basis. i have about a thousand original cd pressed disc boots from whats mainly about a 5 year period. there were a few before and a few after, but come the new millenium filesharing and downloads took the place of spending daft money on boots and come the ONA tour you could get every show of the whole tour, soundcheck, mainshow and aftershow

I had a lot of those you mentioned. That Ron Wood/Sting thing on 7" vinyl with a pic of Salvador Dali on the cover. I..Don't..know..why?? i remember 'The Roof Is On Fire' chant. lol

Charade, Chocolate Box etc. Exciting at the time, but honestly, i don't miss those days now. As a teen, i found myself spending a lot of money on poor sounding boots ang getting upset about it, i kind of prefer the Recycle bin option!

i remember the 7". there was a string of 7" boots at the time (from various artists), i think there might have been one or two with black album tracks on. i never touched any of them though. there was also a couple of 12" boots such as let's work and sexy dancer that were basically pirate copies

the original x records small club just had text as the "art" on the disc, thus the quotation marks. it was common to use weird names on bootlegs to disguise the artists. mispellings were also common, and using the wrong song names on purpose to foil the BPI etc. big audio dynamite released an official "bootleg" live show with a bootleg looking cover with alternate names for the songs as bootleggers often wouldn't know the names of the songs so would name them after bits of lyrics

Ahh 'Let's Work' as i recall had a pretty cool megamix on the B-Side ending with '6' and 'Tricky'. i have that somewhere (White label with red writing). Also had a bootleg 12" of 'Baby I'm A Star" with a horrible flange effect throughout it.

Taking me back here Unique! lol

My first boot was from my first Prince concert. Orphuem Theatre, San Fransisco, '07. In fact, it was provided to me by a fellow orger. He was the only guy who got up on stage when Prince brought a bunch of the girls in the house on the stage. lol

Unfortunately, it's only the first quarter of the show or so, since the guy recording got caught early on. But it's awesome to have all the same. Still the best concert I've been to to this day. I was high off of it for weeks after.

This really bad cassette I bought of the Syracuse concert in 1985 (I bought it in 1995, thats how far behind I was), the quality was grainy and it broke after 3 listens. I also bought a tape bootleg of his 1985 interview and that had a version of Good Love, old friends 4 sale, shes always in my hair and others from that period. God only knows where that tape is today. But the quality was trult bad, it was a copy of a copy of a copy and then it was on a cheep ass tape.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I believe it was the Wembley "Parade" show. The one where Ron Wood and Sting guested on "Miss You". The next one was "Lovesexy '88" in Dortmund.

And I also have "Small Club" on vinyl! But back when I bought it, vinyl was about all there was! I have a half-dozen or so Prince vinyl concert boots. Most of them are Lovesexy shows.

I have the Vienna boot on vinyl - and the SOTT tour warm-up at First Avenue. But I got those much later - less than 5 years ago, in fact.

i guess it was the Syracuse concert (I rented it), we had a tv or maybe the VCR with an auxiliary audio out jack and I used that to record the audio directly to my brothers pioneer stereo system so it was very high quality.

the first one I bought was Lovesexy and soon after the small club 2nd show that night.

You really can't include anything related to the Syracuse 85 show - as it was officially released - even if you did make an audio tape of it.

That's funny. I made an audio tape of Syracuse too.

I had a friend whose dad worked for Bose so at their

house they had the VCR hooked in to the home stereo

with a nice quality tape deck. They were nice enough to let

me spend a day there recording videos to cassette.

I brought Prince & The Revolution Live, Sign O The Times movie,

& Talking Heads Stop Making Sense, and for years those were

my audio versions of those movies.

Syracuse, 1985. The full concert was aired on Les Enfants du Rock (channel Antenne 2). We didn't have a VCR, so I hooked my tape recorder to the TV, it recorded in mono, the sound was awful but I loved it and drove everybody crazy with it! Good times... I had no idea I was doing a boot, lol

Cassette dub of "Crystal Ball," which included the sitar intro of Strange Relationship. Got it from a college classmate.

Soon after I gained access to the purple underground.

The 1st boot I had was the 11-11-00 show @ the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Pa.(my dumb-ass somehow missed the show & never evn knew he was here). I went to a local record store & just happen to look in the Prince slot & there it was with jewel-case/cover. I got it home & went straight at it & that's the 1st boot I ever owned. Now I got so many I can't give time to a lot of them!!!!!
